19$ a person. Government pays the other $15,000k to run the train. These people say there living off the land but reality is they live off welfare and government subsidiaries
@curmudgeinnakАй бұрын
The train is set up for tourist and they make plenty of money off that. NO ONE at our location is taking money from welfare or Gov subsidiaries. The Alaskan Railroad shuttles almost half a million people on the rails each year and over 5 million tons of freight. When the feds sold the state the train service it was in the contract they had to service people that lived out here in the bush. If you have a issue with that take it up with the feds. You should know your facts before making bold statements like that. Have a good day.

I'm not usually one to respond to ubsurd comments like yours, but your statment is simply untrue. The Alaska Railroad made 264.4 million in revenue for the 2023 fiscal year (the most recently avalible financial statment), and from that had a net income of 44.3 million dollars. They have been posting profitable income (which directly goes to lower your state taxes and funding your schools) for decades, with one exception; in 2020 they lost 8 million. Their freight traffic didn't decline dramtically, oil and coal can't catch covid. It was a drop in ridership of their passenger trains which caused this drop. These passenger trains make money for your state, and even when they don't, it isn't cost you a dime because the freight pays the rest anyways. This isn't even mentoining the millions of dollars that tourists who come to ride these trains bring into the state of Alaska ever single year. Be bitter. be angry, but those are the facts, and you could easily have found if you put in even a little effort. And please, do not attack this man and the way he chose to live his life simply because he uses a service provided for him by the state at no cost to you or anyone else. I admire this man for what he's doing, and the life he is trying to create for himself. He certainly doesn't need people like you trying to tell him that he can't. Keep on making these great videos!

It would take a lot for this system to fade out. We would all have to leave the area. When the fed gov sold the train to the state it was written into the contract that they had to ALWAYS service the flag stop folks or build a road the entire length of this stretch. It would cost them wayyy to much to build that road. The grumble about us and each year the price goes up but they still work with us.

This is the third time I'm watching all of your train flag stop videos. I find it so interesting! Just a tip for flagging the train down when its dark or murky. I drove a school bus for 40 years in rural NJ and it was dark out in the mornings through winter. I taught ALL MY STUDENTS on the first day, to use the flashlight setting on their cell phone, to wave me down if they were late, running from the house down long driveways. It's a pure white light that can be seen from long distances. It was funny to watch the white light hop down the landscape too.

I'm from the UK so I don't know the customs there, but I noticed you had a knife and a gun on your hip. Is that legal to walk about in town with them out like that?
@curmudgeinnak2 ай бұрын
Yes and yes. Alaska allows you to open or conceal carry a firearm. Knives are just a part of life up here like weapons.

Amazing you can stop the train like that

Do you leave your white truck parked at the train station all the time? Does it always start?
@curmudgeinnak2 ай бұрын
Yes we leave it in town. We have only had an issue with it starting twice. The battery was week as it was from 2018. I replaced it and have not had an issue since.

The cinnamon buns are worth more than dollar bills on the railroad 🤣🤣🤣 (AND MORE APPRECIATED) ... Great job...

This is very true. lol. They get them at different times of the year from us. I sometime drop them fresh bread as well.

Maybe i missed it. After you get off the train, you drive to the store. Who's vehicle are you driving? If it is yours, where do you keep it when not in use? Thanks

It is ours and it stays in town at the train depot and a friends

And to think here in Aroostook county Maine I got upset 50 pounds of potatoes cost me 12.99 but you pay 35 feel better about the 12.99 now.
@curmudgeinnak2 ай бұрын
We would be lucky to get a 10# bag for that up here. :-). That is a good price.

Here in N. E. Georgia 50 lbs is 17.99 when we can get them. Now tell me why such a difference..
@csboatworks13622 ай бұрын
Considering all the potatoes produced up in the county that's steep prices.

What is the trail that you cannot use and why? Thanks. Do you have to rent a vehicle in town or do leave it there?
@curmudgeinnak2 ай бұрын
The trail ends 4-5 miles south of our stop. The terrain is to steep to go much past that. The area also contains a lot of creeks and bogs that you can not pass over. the truck is ours and it stays in town.
