Awesome review mate 👍 I got these headphones recently and can confirm that they *do* now pause music / streaming etc when you take them off *and* resume playback when you put them back on. It works really well for me. It must have come with the software update. I’ve had them for a week and so far they’re brilliant. One things I’ve noticed is when I’m talking on a call with them the ANC is still enabled so I can’t hear myself speaking and so am probably shouting to those around me but not sure if that’s just mine. Other than that they’re the best headphones I’ve owned 👑

I have had the xm4's for 3 weeks now and this review is spot on. The music on these is a bit better than the airpod pros, but the noise cancelling is better on the airpods simply because they make a solid seal (also foam earpieces ftw here). The MK4's are *superb* for working at home. I have this paired to my pc and iphone and it swaps between phonecalls on the phone and teams meetings on the pc effortlessly. A big help with productivity. Also this review is my favorite hands down. Nicely edited!

Baby Yoda if you can get a solid seal on them yes. Their transparency mode is also better. The big downside is the battery life. I can get maybe 3 or 4 hours tops. With the Sony I can always get a full day out of them and they're comfortable enough to actually wear all day. They also play music a bit better. You can hear instruments and stuff in the Sony that even airpod pros can't reproduce.

@@babyyoda9943 If you work out a lot, the Airpods Pro. If you're on a train or office a lot, or need to wear them for more than a few hours, the Sony's. The size and battery life is really the main difference between the two.

*Wind noise problem resolve: there is an option special for the wind on the voice canceling scale near 0. Just slide to the left and check it there ;)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for your real world warts and all review, great to hear of the cons as well as the pros. Most reviews of the Sony WH-1000XM4 are gushing in their praise of these headphones. I have a cheap set of ANC headphones and noticed that I was getting a lot of wind sound and they didn't really cut down on voices of people talking in close proximity to me. No one else mentions wind sound or that all ANC headphones have these problems same as the cheap ones. I was about to pay €380 on a pair but having seen your review I've decided to keep my money, I tried out my own headphones while moving the lawn and was surprised that they were good at cutting out the sound of the mower. With ANC off I couldn't hear my music due to the loud engine but when I turned on the ANC I had no problem listening to my music. I thank you for your real world honest review with the bad points as well as the good points. I use mine for taking calls and haven't had any bad feedback about the quality of the calls on my €50 headphones. Like every bit of tech many reviewers seem to be fanboys of the product so do not give an unbiased review. Keep up the good work, I've just subscribed to you channel 👍

Liked how you virtually put the headphones on us -cool and very original idea -would love for you to do a specific video putting xm4s through real world noise cancelling walk = dogs ,random car noises , bassey music from another room- the whole point of spending money like this is to have technology that keeps our headphone experience more immersive/ uninterrupted - so it would be cool to see a more real time /real world experience in cafes , malls ,next to a road etc etc

XM4 Gang! Damn, your editing is on point, man. I love how quick-paced yet informative it is. Transitions and transformations are amazing too. I'd suggest you to dive a bit into technicalities like frequency responce and codec differences, but if your vids are purely consumer-oriented, then it's actually perfect. Viewer feedback aside, here are some product comments: * Hidden feature of xm3/xm4 is "doubletap-hold" on right cup. In my case it invokes google assistant even when "custom" button is taken by noise cancelling. You can also use it to turn on and off speak-to-chat without opening the app, but i didn't figure out how, just accidentally did it one time and then it switched to assistant. * Microphones on both XM3 and XM4 are actually quite good hardware-wise, yet sony's compression absolutely butchers it. It performs well in noisy environments though, tested it in a server room and got no complaints. * You don't even have to double-tap to go back from speak-to-chat, you can put 3 fingers on and off of a cup, it will switch to ambient and quickly back to playing music. I feel like it is unintended though. * When you do "2 devices", primary device is connected with AAC, but secondary device is always connected with some heavy compression which is only suitable for calls, not music and not even podcasts (you can listen but it won't be pleasant). * Default frequency responce is a bit "thicc", those are not flat headphones, they are bass-heavy and treble-reduced, although accurate around whole spectrum except maybe high treble. Situation is actually better with XM4 than with XM3, which were even boomier and muddier, according to soundguys review. With stock "bright" preset both of them sound much more detailed across the whole spectrum.

Great video! I have the white-ish XM4's and your video helped me decide to go with Sony (over the Skullcandy and Bose -- both of which I bought and returned -- keeping the Sony XM4's). Note: On the "ambient sound" menu, you can back down the ambient sound setting to the lowest setting and hey... "wind noise reduction" appears! Hope that helps. Along with the two finger gesture which toggles the "speak-to-chat" feature on and off without having to open up the Sony headphone app on your phone. Two important features/settings that aren't obvious but really useful.

For music going off and on when taking headset off. I would just put an Infrared sensor in there. When temp goes down sharply turn off and when it goes up turn it on. Plus you could put a place in ur app that it reads your temperature for you and can keep log if you want.

With the con you said about the fact that you can still hear the wind through the microphones even though you're in transparency mode, there has been a secret to it reported and not many have picked up on it, so don't feel you're the only one, Paul. In the 'Sound' section of the Headphones App, under Ambient Sound Control, open the section up with the down arrow and where it says Noise Cancelling (if it's set to it), with the slider, increase it by only one setting (I guess you can call it one click, don't know how to describe it) and then it should say 'Wind Noise Reduction'. Most people completely miss this feature so as I said, don't feel you're the only one man, because you're not.

Nice review. Have you tried the wind setup option? As all air is moving around them (windy days) with so many mike's it's difficult to process the ANC proper. With set up I feel better (in UK very windy Island). I do not know if any other brand performes better but with this setting I can see improvement.
