Lying there, she tried to figure out what to do. Two of her teeth had been broken because of the dentist’s error. Now what? “Daddy,” she said, talking aloud to her heavenly Father, “we gotta talk.”
Earlier that day, Lori Marcom had gone to her dentist for a checkup; it was a routine maintenance procedure, just like the many appointments she’d had during the prior two years. She had trays in her mouth to help straighten her teeth, and the checkup was to make any adjustments that were needed. However, on this day the dentist’s hand slipped, and the drill she was using hit one of Lori’s left teeth hard, and then hit one of her right teeth. “I thought, Ooh, that couldn’t have been good,” recounted Marcom.
When Marcom arrived home and took the trays out of her mouth, she realized the left tooth was broken, and the right tooth was severely damaged. Since hers had been the final appointment of the day and the office was now closed, she determined she would go back the next morning to have it taken care of.
That night, she lay awake for about three hours, trying to figure out what to do. Eventually, she turned her attention to the Lord. She knew the Bible says in Ephesians 4:26 to not let the sun go down on your wrath. She wasn’t angry, but she was very frustrated with the circumstance. She remembered that she had heard Brother Copeland say, “Faith won’t work in an unforgiving heart.” So, she told the Lord, “Daddy, I trust You”; then, filled with peace, she fell asleep.
The next morning, she returned to the office. Marcom’s teeth were in such bad shape, the dental hygienist told Marcom she couldn’t touch them and Marcom would have to wait for the dentist. She told Marcom it would be about a 45-minute wait, so Marcom laid back, prayed in the spirit, and stayed calm while she waited.
When the dentist came to check out Marcom’s teeth. she said “Oh, I see I got some resin on the third tooth.” She removed the resin then said “OK, we’re all good!”
Confused, Marcom asked the dentist what she was going to do about the broken teeth. The dentist responded, “What broken teeth?” The hygienist, who had seen the severity of the teeth when Marcom first arrived, came over to look at Marcom’s teeth again. Her eyes grew big and, in shock, she told Marcom to go look in the mirror.
What Lori saw was teeth that were not broken. She was speechless, the hygienist was speechless, and the dentist didn’t know what was going on because she hadn’t seen the teeth when they were broken.
Marcom went to her car and, with tears in her eyes, she said to the Lord, “Daddy, I said I trusted You, but I didn’t know You were going to do that.” He completely re-created her teeth. It was a miracle!
