My grandad passed quite recently and when clearing out his house, I discovered a good sized record collection of 50s rock n roll. I'm gonna have to clean them up and get a record player to relive his youth. I absolutely love the tone of this era, it's something very much lost my modern digital recording.

After loosing my life time collection, 1000+, in a flood about 6 years ago, I am just now starting to collect LPs again. This time I am more looking at the graphic and subjects of the cover more so then the group. I love the 50s stuff now. And yes you would be sick if you knew and seen what was lost. Some from the 50's and mostly 60's.

If washing a record, I'd be using distilled water, not tap water. According to other audiophiles, alcohol may be used. It is also important not to get the label wet. Ink could potentially run.

Just wanted to tell ya, my girlfriend's sister is getting out of rehabilitation after a long while (she contracted meningitis), and finally coming home. Thanks to your vids about the Collegiate, I'm going to be picking one up for her (along with some vinyl of course) as a welcome home present, & as a way for her to continue her rehab at home by having her to get up, walk over, and flip the record, and walk back again. Just wanted to thank you for giving me the idea by showcasing this turntable, it sounds great on video so I feel it will sound great in person as well! Thank you!

I have used Comet cleanser to gently clean the dirt clots out of some records. It works, but you want to rinse, rinse, rinse, and wash the hell out of the grooves with a mild soap before you play it.

That is not the world's dirtiest record. My brother just brought over my dad's old records and they literally look like they were buried in mud within a time capsule. I'm glad to know that before seeing this video I basically did the same thing you did but I used my hands lightly with running water to clean them. I have a lot more to go through but it's good to know I'm on the right track as they have been playing greatly. Some were so bad they were stuck inside the sleeves.
