Best to purchase the tissue paper from your art supply store, if unsure ask the shop if it’s acid free. That way you can be reassured. Also use artists quality gesso. The gesso seals the tissue paper, like a sandwich so all will be well 😀

@lindabrownartist
@lindabrownartist 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Glenda, you prepare your surface by taping down your heavy paper, apply a thickish coat of white gesso, crumple tissue paper then gently unfold it - pat it onto the wet gesso, then gently apply another coat of gesso over the top of the tissue paper. You do not remove the tissue paper. Classes can’t resume yet, we have to wait until it’s safe to start up. Once safe, I’m going to limit my students to 8 per class to allow plenty of social distancing between tables for a while.

Hello, Linda. I realize this video is a couple years old but I am wondering if the artist’s quality white gesso you use is a thick or thin consistency.
@lindabrownartist
@lindabrownartist Жыл бұрын
Good question, it’s a medium consistency, if it was too thick it would be hard to brush on and possibly tare the tissue paper. However you do need it to coat well to give a good barrier surface between the WC and the tissue. The last tub I bought was really thick, like so thick it wouldn’t brush on easily, so I added some water to it, mixed it well to a good medium consistency.

Have you tried the process? If you try the process you will understand the paint stays on the gessoed tissue paper. The paint will lift off very easily if you need it to. The paint doesn’t absorb into the paper like watercolor paper. Try it I think you’ll like it I did. You get a lot of Unusual textures.

I feel I must ask what you consider a "copy" and hence not sellable? Isn't that almost impossible using this technique? I only ask because I also have a unique technique that I don't want people to copy and I don't know how to teach it and "claim" it at the same time. Help? :)
@lindabrownartist
@lindabrownartist 3 жыл бұрын
It’s difficult teaching a style that’s unique, the students get locked in and can’t see the bigger picture. They tend to think that the technique is for that particular type type of painting and can’t see outside the square. This technique could be definitely used to paint many subjects, such as underwater scenes, flower arrangements, beaches, rivers... I teach technique for learning purposes only, you can copy my work to learn, you can hang it in your own home or gift it. You can’t copy my work and claim it as your own. Copyright, you can’t copyright technique, it’s the artwork that is copyrighted. In my opinion if a work is recognisable as someone else’s work it’s a copy.

@@lindabrownartist Thank you so much for replying. I failed to mention how much I admire your work! So I think I understand... If for instance if I paint florals using my technique, and then I teach that to someone who paints a tree with it - they can sell their tree. But if they paint florals similar to mine, then they can't; or at least not without credit to me? My work, like yours, cannot be EXACTLY copied, but where do you (and I) draw the line? To date, I have not sold anything online simply to avoid too many "copycats" out there. Case in point might be all the paint-pourings going on :)
