Experiments with my Sylvania VCR

Reposted video. Doing experiments putting the reels of a cassette in a Funai made Sylvania VCR.

The VHS cassette contains a number of spikes and rollers that form a vital part of the tape path. This is why the mechanism won't work properly without the cassette shell.

Interesting! Your technique for playing a tape without the case may be useful when the case has problems and sticks (as some of my old ones do) and I can't play them the normal way any more. I plan to try this, thanks!

I'll try to do like you just put the cassette tape without the box :) thank you for this method less like that if the case cassette and break can still look without any problem

That vcr is missing a light sensor which should be ata the middle of the two cassette wheels. And without this sensor you can play a cassette without its housing and even with the vcr cover opened.

@Simone Mastroianni: Notice that they are extra part above the right side of the reel, you see a big black wheel, and just bellow a rotating small cylinder, the Big black wheel his called a pinch roller, and the rotating small cylinder his called a capstan, and the megnatic tape path pass in between, so if you slow down the take-up wheel on the right, the megnatic tape will spilt out, and may get caught in the big black wheel, or capstan, this his called eating tape, the object that I just mention are also inside audio casette deck.

While the big metal drum is spinning, use the back of your thumb, the nail, and lightly touch the protruding readers and the picture will clear up magically. Tape head cleaners usually don't work.

VCRs have sensors and putting your hand near the sensors would make the VCR activate. If the VCR activated while he was wrapping the tape around the guides, let's just say it wouldn't end well.
