Just FYI, the ENTIRE AH-64D Apache fleet had to be grounded because wire harness installers at the Boeing Mesa factory used spinner-style insulation strippers on multi-conductor shielded wire. These spinner-strippers were designed for RG-series RF cable, not normal wiring/cabling. The recommended stripper tool was a simple exacto type blade. The special EMI shrink tube was actually flowing into the nicks left by the strippers and shorting the circuit to ground.

When you use the proper splicing kit, as instructions, you will have a shrink sleeve that also goes over the splice.

Those are some very thorough instructions for working with shielded wire. And I agree with one of the comments below would of been nice to have seen a list of tools and materials in the description. #avioncisrepair.

EMI shrink tube is a normal heat shrinkable tubing with conductive silver past on the inside. When wires are nicked, the silver past flows into the damaged area and closes a path from shielding/ground to the inner conductors. These problems are VERY hard to troubleshoot as they sometimes result in intermittent shorts, in addition to requiring deep access into the aircraft which further adds to the downtime.

I have an A/C unit that my dog chewed in 2 pieces the electrical supply cable. I didn't bother trying to repair the very thin metal bare wire and foil, because it was too difficult. The unit will not work in this condition. Is there anyway to bypass the bare wire and shield? It's hard getting to where the wires start in the unit.

Can you make a video on an rf connector I’m an avionics mechanic and I’m trying to perfect my wire maintenance and I did awful on an rf connector

Why solder sleeves are not shrunk using Raychem Mini ray infrared heating gun?

Why doesn't the camera focus on the work? 1. Usually too far away 2. Blurred if close

Well, lots of good focus on the dude's shirt.

It would be useful if the tool and material details used in the video were listed in the comments. It would make it easier to find some of these items.

Have a look at Daniels manufacturing Corp, Astro Tool Corp. The data sheets for the MIL / Aero / Space cable will state the standard of t connector system needed and the connector system will state the standard of tool needed. As long as they meed the standard one brand is nominally as good as the other

Another comment on the photography, although hopefully not so crude. I've done video camerawork and the proper technique is to zoom in first, establish your focus (in this case on the wiring your working on), then your focus will stay good as you zoom in and out. Obviously your cameraman did not know this, and relied on autofocus which focused on your shirt, not on the wiring. It is a real shame that these otherwise good tutorials are ruined by the blurry focus during the closeups.
