Why use the galvanize ground rod over copper?

Because the fence is Galvanised. Using copper would mean a galvanic effect would occur and the copper would rapidly degrade (see here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_corrosion)

Why shouldn't we use the top wire as a hot wire? Just because of lightning?

I was told about you needed more Earth rods why ended up hitting rods in to the ground about about every 15 metres then I connected a wire from the star picket to the Rod and it works very well I would like to increase the power but I think I would be asking for trouble even though it is pushing about $8,000 volts my cows are still like to test the fence you just need to be careful with these cheap Chinese solar energizers because one recently did not turn off and started a bushfire up near me

Why not copper rods copper rods are used for earthing houses and are classed as very good earth.
