But you said due to vibrational factors 1 and 2 cannot be fired successively, but why am I seeing 1-2-...... as the possible orders sir?
@P_double_H2 жыл бұрын
In a 4 cyl firing cycle you will always have two consecutive pistons to fire one after the other.. in the most common firing order (1342) you have 3 and 4 which are the last 2 cylinders away from the distribution chain / belt, or the water pump side of the engine. So based on that is why you also have a 1 and 2 firing order too... What you can't have is a 2 and 3 firing order because you'll be putting a lot of pressure in the middle of the crankshaft resulting in short term reliability. I hope that makes it clear.. 1342 is the preferred way even though we also have a 3-4 firing order that is not desired, but kind of the best combo possible as far as firing order goes.

Even if it's 1-3-4-2, there'd have the same amount of vibrations as 1-2-4-3, as cylinders 1-2 and 3-4 will still be firing after each other.

@@jaydipsavani8744 no.. you don't want excessive consecutive pressure in the middle of the crankshaft. It's proven to fail in the short term resulting in engine overhaul.

Sir I will be really grateful if you can explain about these two engines one is Leyland 370 Six Cylinder Naturally Aspirated Diesel Engine and another is Mercedes Benz OM 352 six Cylinder Naturally Aspirated Diesel Engine plus whether Leyland 370 engine can give good performance in comparison to Mercedes Benz OM 352 Engine on a steep hilly road.

Ok, I get that loads would be different, but what about something like a v4 or boxer engine? Could firing order change depending on the layout of the engine?

Did you ever find out what the true answer is to your question ?
@alexjenner1108 Жыл бұрын
In an Alfa Romeo boxer the firing order is 1-3-2-4 which makes sense as 1 and 2 are the front pair of cylinders and 3 and 4 are the rear pair. You will never have two cylinders from the same pair fired one after the other in a four cylinder boxer, as both pistons in a pair reach TDC at the same time. From my understanding Subaru boxer is the same 1-3-2-4 as Alfa Romeo. In air-cooled VW and Porsche 356/912 engines the cylinder numbering is different, and the front pair of cylinders are numbered 1 and 3, and the rear pair numbered 2 and 4, so firing order follows a different numbering, although the same rules apply regarding two cylinders from the same pair will not be fired one after the other.

I have a V8 engine. Am I to assume that each cyclinder gets a spark once every two revolutions? Asking because I am seeing with timing gun spark in two different parts of the crackshaft.
@P_double_H2 жыл бұрын
Almost all engine pistons get s spark every 2 revolution without caring how many pistons it has.. 4 stroke engines require 2 revolutions to complete all 4 cycles.. Only 2 stroke engines complete all 4 cycles in one revolution. So YES.. assume your V8 pistons fire every 2 revolutions

Do any engines have multiple simultaneous cylinder firing?
@michaelferguson10935 жыл бұрын
No. 180° crank rotation is one stroke ( either up or down). A 4 stroke is power (down), exhaust (up), intake (down), compression (up). 180° × 4 strokes= 720°. Divide 720 by the number of cylinders. Play with numbers. Less than 4 cylinders there is a lag. More than 4 there is over lap resulting in smother. A 4 cylinders gets power every 180° of crank but a v8 every 90° of rotation.
@michaelferguson10935 жыл бұрын
Even an engine with 2,880 cylinders no. There would be a power stroke ever 0.25° of crank rotation. Can only get infinitely closer but never simultaneous.

I don't understand, are you counting cylinders when going 1-3-4-2 or counting the numbers from 1-4. And also from where do you start counting cylinders on an engine if it is facing straight from the firewall.
@Thomas_Bergel7 жыл бұрын
Zlatan Ibrahimovic Some manufacturers start counting on the side connected to the gearbox, some start counting on the other side

It's manufacturer dependant... Most 4 cylinder engines start counting from the side where the water pump is.. opposite to the starter motor side.

Whatever controls the injector is out of timing.. if it's the ECU then you have a bigger problem. It might need to be reflashed.

why can't it be 1-4-2-3
@markmccormack72069 жыл бұрын
1&4 and 2&3 are the pairs which reach TDC at the same time. At the end of the power stroke of cylinder 1, cylinders 2&3 are now at TDC ready to fire, cylinder 4 is at BDC with 1, and has to rotate 180 degrees before firing. In the next stroke when 1 goes through exhaust, 4 will be going through compression, and either 2 or 3 through power stroke with the other through intake. The crankshaft is set up that way for balance, to reduce vibration and wear.
@athafawwazrudiyanto59668 жыл бұрын
Mark McCormack no, it possible if we modificate the crank angle of each piston. but the effect is the engine vibration is unstable. the other firing order with 4 cylinder is 1-4-3-2 it's commonly used in 4 cylinder boxer engine like VW.
@mojitocod7 жыл бұрын
Mark McCormack all those things are BECAUSE we modify the crankshaft so it fires that way... so it doens't apply as a reason why another firing order can't be right... If I understand it correctly
@oiygfdxssfgg6 ай бұрын
So the engine is really running on one cylinder at a time not multiple cylinders firing at the same time.
@sundilki31462 ай бұрын
Yes obviously. Just remember that all four firings must be done in 720 degree crank angle rotation (or one cycle) in case of four stroke engine. 😊

Why do we need firing order .. why can't we fire all cylinders at the same time?
@houseofwonders14 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine there would be short periods of high stress on the crankshaft, followed by a "long" period with no combustion. It's better to spread out the force over time to keep the power flow pretty consistent, reduce vibration and stress. Otherwise, you'd essentially have a go kart engine, very loud and lots of vibration

to bad you did'nt tell why they use 3rd silinder instead of 4rth. I know the answer, but begginners propably have this question. And there shuld be more talking about 6 cilinder. 6 inline has more backpresure if it has one exhaust manifold as diesel bmw has. So there is always some back flow because of that.
