Explained: 1908 Great Musi flood and history of Himayat and Osman Sagar dams

As areas around Musi river flooded again last week when the gates of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar dams were opened, the city couldn't help but remember the 2020 Hyderabad floods which were the worst floods that hit Hyderabad in modern times.
However, in 1908, the city of Hyderabad was hit by an even worse flood that washed away countless livelihoods. But that flooding also became a prime catalyst for the modernisation of Hyderabad. In this brief historical video, The Siasat Daily attempts to share the astonishing story of great Musi river floods, history of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, and how these events laid the foundations for a modern Hyderabad.
