LIKES AND FEEDBACK ARE WELCOME! :)
When I was learning the basics of linguistics, this was one of the things that were pretty hard to understand. However, Jana, my/our tutor, came up with this IMHO brilliant way of explaining how these who fields "phonetics" and "phonology" work together. This is why I created this video. Feel free to ask if you have questions.

I don't think so. It's well explained: Phonology is concerned about the sounds that infer meaning; Phonetics is concerned concerning all the possible sounds produced by human being.

So, Phonetics deals with phones and allophones whereas Phonology is about phonemes of a particular language? Got it.
@Selziie04

So, if I say, that Phonology is the study of the system of sounds of a language, it is correct? like, "system of sounds" refers to Phonemes (literally how you pronounce the r- he mentioned) am i right?? if you can answer this it'd be awesome, thanks!!

correct me please if i didnt get it right so basically, I understood that /r/ or /r/ phoneme is the idea of sound /r/ and phones [r] (im too lazy to look for actual allophone symbol) is the actual or application of the idea of sound which are nuances of /r/??? /r/ = idea of sound? [r] = application of sound?

👍. Mr. R phoneme is the phoney one. Would you please kindly help to explain the missing "q" in phonetics and only "qu~" as letters in dictionary. allophone: any of the various phonetic realizations of a phoneme in a language, which do not contribute to distinctions of meaning. For example, in English an aspirated p (as in pin) and unaspirated p (as in spin) are allophones of the phoneme /p/, whereas in ancient Greek the distinction was phonemic.

I think what you explained is different variants of a phoneme, not allophones of it. For it to be allophones there'd have to be some kind of complementary distribution rules.

No, I think phones are similar units that belong to their own phonemes the father but have different shapes and convey different sounds. Each sounds has its own meaning. They are not exactly the same. Theses units with different shapes and sounds that represent their father the phonemes are called allophones. So Allophones refers to the phones that have different forms with different sounds that are represent their the phonemes. Hope to get the idea. Happy reading.
