EXPLAINED: Why Ravindra Jadeja could end up as Test cricket's GREATEST all-rounder

In the history of Test cricket, only two cricketers have scored 2,000 runs at an average over 35, and taken 200 wickets at under 30. One of them is Ravindra Jadeja.
Even in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jadeja has won the Player of the Match award in both Test matches - that too after an injury comeback.

Yeah He missed the most important aspect of Jadeja, fielding. Jadeja is by far the best fielder I've seen, He's at the top with Jonty Rhodes already. He just doesn't get the recognition like Kohli and Rohit but He and Ashwin both belong to that category of all time greats.

If one has to add jadega fielding into it he will definitely be amongst the greatest, there are very few all-rounders in the history of test cricket who are also good fielders but jadeja is one of the greatest ever when it comes to fielding. His runout of Steve Smith in sydney and his catch to get rid of Neil Wagner in NZ was probably one of the finest display of fielding one could ever see. In overseas he should be given an opportunity to bat in top 5 and the kind of temparement and technique that he has he will definitely score runs.

Don't forget in an era where the ball bounces of the bat he has taken wickets! The stroke play has also improved now with the new bats,and t20 cricket has given batting a new dimension. Under these circumstances he has taken wickets. The new bats have also given him an advantage in batting I accept! Over all he is a very lively cricketer and please don't forget his fielding!

But he is already 34 yrs ...Hardly 4 yrs of test cricket left in him ...So , 4× 7 = 28 +62 = 90 matches maximum Kallis played 166 matches ,Pollock played 108 matches , Sobers 93 matches , Imran 88 matches ...To be the greatest he needs to perform extremely well in his limited overseas tours in the SENA nations !

He is a great player no doubt.. but his stats are skewed a lot due to home pitches that have been tailor made since 2014 onwards.. that directly correlates to his improved stats. His batting is the area where genuine match winning change has happened. Bowling hard to say as mostly it is home games on suited wickets.. just compare to Axar stats.. any spinner would have crazy stats on these wickets.

All Fast bowlers will have that stat at their fast bowling friendly pitches as well so don't say that only they are getting the pitches that suit their bowling even Pakistan used to leave a lot of grass on pitches and Gabba like pitches were traditional in SENA countries that helped their bowlers to gain those crazy stats no disrespect to them but jadeja us equally great

@@rahuljainjain7232 Actually no other nation has had such a consistent run of 3 day test matches as India between 2014-2023. Just look up matches in SENA or where ever in history of test cricket. Also in same time all opposition spinners have had similar runs.. just this series a debutant spinner got 5 wickets against India.. Joe root has taken 5 wickets in an inngs in India.

@@rahulbosebose1 I really don't understand the point u r trying to make. Most test bowlers have better stats at home than away. That doesn't make them a bad bowler. Look at 2016 test series vs England and 2017 BGT... Even on relatively flat pitches Jadeja was running through sides. If India make 400 runs and an opposition spinner takes 7 wickets then it invalidates ur point. Indian spinners r far more threatening than visiting spinners.

@@jimmy_xi9342 Home pitch test matches vs 3 day test pitches.. big difference.. We should not pretend that tests in SENA countries all finish in 3 days.. Fact is Jadega and Ashwin stats are skewed because they have played at home on tracks that are extreme spin friendly.. pitches on which even part timers like Joe root are not playable.

Jadeja is incredible but he is bowling in the ideal conditions and era for left arm orthodox spin bowling. He's not 'one of the greatest spinners of all time'. He is right up there as an all rounder though.

Plus DRS makes finger spin significantly more dangerous. Warne's average much higher than Jadeja's but its unarguable that Shane was the better bowler.
