Lain' s foster family are real people; not sure where you got them being artificially created is. Her dad even worked with Eiri - you can see him in the newspaper article next to him.

Haven't watched his full video yet but It was very ambiguous. You have to admit that much. Especially after the sister completely lost it.
@buchichu70345 ай бұрын
@@cccantv6457 a bunch of people were losing it. People's minds were being lost in the wired, including her. Again, Lain's dad is IN THE PICTURE with Eiri before the latter ever entered or starting messing with the wired and 7th protocol.
@cccantv64575 ай бұрын
@@buchichu7034 I just finished watching the whole thing and think that his take is valid. I'll rewatch at some point but while everyone was losing their shit it was heavily implied that Lain's family was fake. Artificial or what have you it seemed like they were mainly there to monitor and keep her in check. The more she came into her power the more obsolete they became. Nobody was as braindead/a shell of themselves as the sister.

Serial Experiments Lain reminds me of the spiritusl concept of a "tulpa", an entity created by intense meditation that once manifested has a rather high degree of autonomy from their creator (or at least, that's what I understood of the conept). Apparently in some Buddhist traditions is believed that Buddha can create tulpas as earthy bodies to comunicate with the people outside of the Nirvana, but Western mystics believe an individual or a group of people can also create tulpas, literally manifesting their collective thoughts into reality; so Lain would be a combination of both definitions of tulpa, a physical avatar of a divine being that the collective interconected minds of the Wired (guided by Masami's protocols) brought into the material world

I agree with a lot things you bring up and like your view on the the series. Although I think all the Gnosic stuff is a little bit of a stretch. I see were you might be able to put it in, but the show itself really doesn't have enough in it to go that way. Overall, love the video. Probably the best video I've seen to explain this series. Still one of my favorite anime series.

I'm already very familiar with templar/masonic/gnostic stuff, Internet history, conspiracy, and even the research of John c. Lilly/e.c.c.o. stuff. I had no idea any of this stuff was covered in lain but it's all stuff I've previously researched! Thanks to your vid, I shall give it another go. Thanks for the push!

lain is one of the rare anime that you kinda sorta NEED to binge through to have it work. its also highly dependent if you go dub or sub with both being fantastic in this case but very contextually different and will get you absorbed into the story differently. if you only made it into one ep then expect tonal whiplash. it rapidly becomes something it wasn't over and over again
@Animebryan25 ай бұрын
Episode 9's documentary scenes & what they imply is a pretty deep rabbit hole in of itself. Would be nice if you cover more in depth what all that means, its impact on the real world today, as well as the origin of computers & how we came up with it, whether on our own, or through outside help (Aliens).
@deepcut77885 ай бұрын
For that you want my personal channel which is the one I’m commenting from right now. At some point, I will be doing videos that talk about that sort of thing, though no current plan to break down the documentary itself yet. Actually that might be good for here on random random universe for a second video though.

additional note: the knights in the show inherit their reference to the knights templar from the "knights of the lambda calculus", a tongue-in-cheek secret society that's existed as an in-joke amongst mit lisp hackers since at least the first few editions of the jargon file, and several of the real-life references the show chooses to make are mit-adjacent, as is the lisp code scrolling by on her handheld in that one scene.

haha supposedly the game confirms she does have DID, and I don't disagree with a lot of the ways they are portrayed with, but generally I find that stuff to be a bit overwritten on the subject, but I'm sure many people feel the same way about my more mytho-historical connections to cartoons haha.

A very interesting video! I really enjoyed Serial Experiments Lain when I first watched it, even if I was not super clear on what exactly was supposed to be happening. It's been more than a decade since I saw the show; I ought to give it another go. I'd definitely watch a layer-by-layer breakdown, too, and I've always been curious about the game, although I've never played it (I understand it doesn't have that much to do with the show, actually, beyond starring the same protagonist). Incidentally, it was a bit odd for be listening to the narration talk about Gnostic beliefs about celestial beings being able to commune with our world and suddenly seeing Mexico City's Angel of Independence come out of nowhere (at 20:06). I never expected that statue to photobomb a video about anime, I will readily admit.
