I feel like some things- like the fact that Xie Lian saves the Heavenly Officials by flying around on a giant statue of himself, carved by Hua Cheng, while making out with Hua Cheng- are important when telling people about TGCF because it really emphasizes how hilariously ridiculous this story is at times.

This video made me realize just how many important plots I have forgotten. Not minute little details. Actual main storyline of significance! Appreciate Kictor trying to summarize and retelling the romantic stories of hualian. ALSO I get how the explanation of plots tend to get funny but I cried! Xie Lian could have so easily been the most terrifying being in existence and one good deed stopped it. When Hua Cheng died as Wu Ming, that could have sent him over the edge again. It's says something about Xie Lian as a person and how deeply he loves and cares for others despite what was done to him.

If you're friend isn't already completely whipped for wangxian, there's something a lot of non-chinese audience missed near the end: (spoilers) in one of the battles, their robes get dyed red because of like a blood cultivation technique or something, then they don't exactly bow to each other, but there's gratitude exchanged and commitment conveyed and all that, and then they bow to the wens (wei ying's found family for a while), and the entire battle could be interpreted as bowing to the heavens. ESSENTIALLY You got the red robes, bowing before heaven, earth, parents, and each other, which are key components of a traditional Chinese wedding. And then they literally ride off into the sunset on little apple, to their little cottage with rabbits and radishes AND THEY LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER

In terms of progression of the wangxian in baseball metaphors. In the beginning, there were multiple strikeouts due to LWJ’s gay panics and WWX’s oblivious clown antics. Then eventually, they just about managed first base and possibly second base in WWX’s first body. After the time skip and in WWX’s second body, they quickly got to first base the first time LWJ got drunk then skipped straight onto third base the second time LWJ got drunk, then scored at least 3 home runs in the time between them deciding to elope and just before they actually got married. After the marriage it’s pretty much winning the league with constant back to back home runs everyday with each other and maybe a home run between WWX and LWJ’s other sword…. And I say maybe because it was technically a dream sequence so I wasn’t sure if it counted….

This is a fantastic way to undermine the emotional resonance of the plot. The whole point of this video is to discuss the juicy parts, not the plot. MDZS and TGCF are novels with good plot and BL, and not BL novels where the sole focus is just the romance and nothing much is happening apart from that.

How i described mdzs to a friend was to explain the scene where lz is drunk and they kinda play tag, wwx offhandedly says he'd kiss him if he caught him, and lz just beelined for him and caught *him* instead. That, and the "i love you" "you do realize this is a hostage situation, right" "excuse me, i'm confessing here" part. But also, i showed this friend the scene in the animated show where lz was (again) drunk and tied wwx hands with his forehead ribbon and literally everyone gets the meaning except wwx. Unfortunately, they humor me but don't get nearly as excited about these kinds of shows/books. We're doing 2 diamond by numbers of lz and wwx, each a portrait of one that's like 50x65cm and they agreed that they'd watch tgcf if and only if they could find the dub on one of the streaming services they have. Like i said, humoring. 50 hours of the untamed in chinese is just not going to be possible for them.

tbf I love MDZS, loved the dongua, but I cannot sit through the untamed. They don't even end up hanging out together at the end - they go their separate ways! Plus no cool undead gore stuff. It's very slow as well and low budget.

the no full on naughty scenes in tgcf is ironic a bit cuz mxtx has said out of all the the couples she has written hc it’s the best at doing the deed (prolly cuz 800 years of solo practice with statues😅) with Lou Binghe (bing-mei not bing-ge) is the worst. But while lwj and wwx are…creative and eager, a lot of ppl complain it not realistic (ignoring the fact the it’s in a xianxia setting, they can fly on swords, can raise ppl from the dead, can die and come back in someone’s else’s body, but unrealistic smut is where ppl draw the line) Just a random fact that never fails to make me laugh
