I don't know if you've listened to the latest Lycoris Radio but Shingo Adachi, the director was a guest on the show and he mentioned that the story was supposed to be about both Takina and Chisato but because it was only a 13-cour anime, they only focused more on Chisato. He said if he had more time, he would have covered more of Takina's backstory, which according to Shingo, would have shown that Takina had a tragic dark past. If they have a second season (hopefully) I hope they finally cover that backstory.

Oh shit I actually haven't so I didn't know that, that sounds like really good continuation material, I was also thinking they could have Chisato find out that Mika killed Shinji for the heart and have that as a big plot point for Chisato

@@redjoker Hopefully Shingo would get to do those ideas at some point. I would love to see them played out on the screen so hopefully the Lycoris Recoil Event in February could announce a second season. I've been really impatient for the details of that event. Heck, I could even be happy with an announcement of an OVA or something. If not I'll settle for the current running manga. I know the manga is covering the first season of the anime but maybe there's hope for it to cover more material. And then there's the spin-off manga coming out this month which is basically an adaptation of the Lycoris Novel "Ordinary Day." Either way, it's an exciting time to be a Lycoris fan. 👍 And by the way, great analysis! Glad I ran into this. Very much agree on each point.

As someone who loves hyper-analyzing the things that I love, I can't get enough of these videos. Amazing work as always. It's also really cool to see someone finding the things that English audiences aren't as privy to, especially since it seems like there's a lot of cultural-specific symbolism that can be hard to get across.

Bro, maybe it's too late to write this comment almost two year later, but this video is literally A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, just like the video "Yes, Lycoris Recoil is a Masterpiece". I share your analysis so much, in both of the videos. It is difficult to find a couple in anime that sounds so real and well-crafted like Chisato and Takina, especially if the anime is both "slice of life and action" genre! You took into account every particular and that's is outstanding, and I would have thought at the same interpretations. And yes, I am a fan of Lycoris Recoil just like you, and no, I don't think that the theories you explained in the video are "far-fetched"...because they are real and actually have been written for that (jokes aside: the lyrics is so suitable and I believe this). Nice video man!

As a hard working Japanese citizen, the way of Chisato gave that speach, it does felt into my heart as it say "its ok to times if you work free and dont expect others to judge your work" like my teacher told me before she died of heart attack. The way I felt its so clam and sad at the same time for every time i sing the song. One of the best ending yet after Homura by LiSA, Daijobu by RADWHIMPS, Orange by 7!! and many more. This is my anime of the year, and song of the year, i don't care about others say :). Conclusion: This is ChisaTaki's anthem and love song to each other (okay hear me out: if we somehow get some kind of sequel where they get married, their first dance should be to a piano&violin version of Hana no Tou, that'd be beautiful), ChisaTaki is canon, denial is a river in Egypt, LycoReco is YURI AS F********************************************CK! I actually love the series more now that I know the meaning of Hana no Tou, given that, well, I initially checked LycoReco out for the same reason as any other run-of-the-mill Dynasty Scans-dwelling himejoshi: ChisaTaki. It just feels like there's one more thing that can make me squeal over this couple and considering that if squealing over yuri couples being adorable was a paying job I'd be a googolaire (that's one followed by a hundred zeros by the way), I just love when I have more reasons to squeal and giggle and kick my feet in the air. I speak no Japanese but I made a similar go of translating the lyrics using other peoples translations. In my Day job I am a high school English Teacher and I have to say that your interpretation and analysis tracks for me. I also believe the story shifts POV as you have said. IMO, i would like to think about the line "no matter how much we get lost, lets see both shadow and light together" refers to "no matter where life throws us, lets live our life through sweet and bitterness together" this makes more sense as what we can see,at the end where they chose to spend their times together remember the beach scene when takina ask chisato what she want to do with her life now? and then somewhat they are now at hawaii together, wearing matching bracelets?

You didn't pay attention to the symbolism in the opening, when they put the two towers side by side, one is torn into chaos, because the explosion, beautiful but torn inside, and the other is straight and output, hell, they literally put Chisato and Takina in front of them if you not catch the symbolism, Chisato is pure fun chaos, meanwhile Takina is rigid and strict, began slowly low her barriers.

I think one small thing that's evident on takina having an effect on chisato is the lil pug acrylic. If you go back to their timed date before takina returns to da, there's a quick scene in the montage of them at a claw machine. And Chisato claw picks up a pug plushy rather than an owl plushy (there were only 2 types of plushies and both were on different sides). Like. Come on......

"this amount of distortion, is just right" or something like that, the use of distortion is actually rather odd, as in distortion is just a strange word to use there. I have never seen the anime so this is all conjunction based off what little I know but I have two different interpretations of this line. The first is that the distortion is talking about the world, and how it's twisted just enough to connect the ends of the world, the two main characters. The other is the two mc are both distorted enough to connect where other have failed, and from there change one another.
