Mainstream headsets just aren't quite there yet. Powerful yes, but cheap, comfortable and user friendly, they have a ways to go. I can only play on my Oculus Quest 2 for about an hour before it becomes quite uncomfortable and hot. Once they are as convenient as putting on a pair of glasses, they will be mainstream. We are in the "brick cell phone" phase of VR.

Incorrect. We have developed a work around for that issue. Which means real time processing on each side of the active parties. If 5 people are playing 5 people are individually building a portion of the reality. This results in multiple small bandwidths instead of the old school one massive bandwidth use.

@@Kaun_of_Man Great idea in theory but if the user experience is dependant on other people's hardware and internet connection, that would be an absolute nightmare and would require massive resources just to secure and manage. Imagine the vulnerabilities that would introduce. Current scaleable hardware and software implementations for a mass scale system like that are decades away from being able to efficiently handle that kind of thing at least not without major and constant issues.

I don't think technology is the problem, it's how it's abused by corporations and grifters to hack people's brains into addiction and mine as much of their data and money as possible. it would be easy to have a transfer character system if: Every game or metaverse would utilize the same basic character rules, and have an integration system for their metaverse. So when we first create our metaverse character, if we jump into a game but the games graphics are comic book style, it just takes the rules we made about our character (hair, clothes, tattoos, jewelry) and integrate it into their game so we look the same, only just slightly different to fit the style of game.

I play both Fortnight and Elden Ring. In Fortnight I realized the potential for the vast environments in the side games for doing work, socializing and so on, but even though I'm impressed by Fortnight me and a lot of the older milenials dislike the intensly bright colors of Fortnight and after a while have to log off because of how cartoonish and bright it all is. In Elden Ring it's the opposite. Everything is very muted and discolored and that gets old too. I think if we can strike a balance and even have some environments that feel and look and are colored like their real counter parts people would be able to stand more time in the Metaverse. I also highly disslike the cartoony avatars that make me think of better versions of Wii characters or Fortnight characters and would prefer character creation that is more realistic and based on people's real images/videos and selfies but that can be edited a little to be more realistic or ideal since cameras distorn faces anyways. I also think to prevent bullying it's important to know the person I'm looking at is very similar to their real in life person so that people have less incentive to bully because it's their actual likeness, not just some avatar. For interaction and usability I'd like coffee shops with coffee shop music stations and Up Work type meeting rooms that feel less cramped with great views and blackboards for writing and typing on with functions and programs like Monday, Mind Maps, Canva, Calculators, Google Drive, Docs IRS freeds and more.

I wish the vast resources the major companies have that are trying to control the metaverse work on solving real problems while working on the future instead of pushing a work-in-progress version which still has a lot of glitches and problems. It’s tough - you need users to help shape which problems to solve, but if it’s unusable, then adoption will be slower. As the video mentioned, if a majority of people don’t have access, or are far from it, this will be very niche for those that do have access. I do understand how far cell phones have come, so it’s definitely possible, but struggle with the benefit of the metaverse and it’s applications. Making $ cannot be the only reason - if I’m going to spend money on clothing for my avatar, that’s nice, but that money could go towards real things. I don’t value the avatar over my real self. It’s interesting, but not compelling.

I think, those experiences are very hard to copy. How does one experience the Vatican or Wadi rum or the Great Wall or Ankor Wat or Colorado river from meta environment?

Meta or any AR environment wouldn't be able to offer any real experience of traveling for simply legal and liability issues. It is never going to be a human experience, it will be an observation. We would be observing those places within a safe space. Human experience includes interaction with surroundings, nature, other humans, risks. And every action, we will have reactions, positive and negative. Meta is going to regulate those reactions in AR space for safety and ofcourse they will have to monetize it.

@@curious-relics Completely agree. With VR, there's no solution/fix for the people who get motion sickness and balance disturbances while using it. The VR headsets are also clunky and not comfortable to wear. There are plenty more reasons why Meta is going to fail, but even if it is somehow a success, it's not the future of the internet, people will get bored of meta just like they did with facebook.

I hadn't really looked into the metaverse until I started investing in the MERA NFT project, though now that i'm investing in a project that directly correlates with the metaverse i've been trying to learn as much as I can and the entire concept is really quiet interesting. The concepts and the possibilities are mind blowing, however I do have concerns about the metaverse as well. It will be interesting to see how everything grows over time.
