Thanks a lot for this. I go to the car park at elmdon just a few times a year but I'm interested in new/better spots. Seems you have a lot of success at sheldon country park. Always felt it's a bit risky there with camera gear but you've done loads there 😁

Thanks for the wee tour at The Mound. Shame airport view is restricted from there now. Where there’s a will there’s a way! You’ve found some other good places to film from which are just as good. Thanks Kev and Michelle 🤩

Thanks Wendy , in hindsight the mound is not ideal for streaming anyway ( Loud A45 Traffic noise , and some places the aircraft are almost hidden due to the lie of the land ) 👍

We don't know Birmingham very well, really. We do know Sheldon, and always go there, although it can get very busy. When we have driven past the area you've just shown, we've often wondered exactly where you were. We usually wave 😅

I just remember as a kid being taken to the car park and mesh fence to watch the planes coming out to taxi. I took my own kids to the Sheldon end. Interesting video, thanks!

Birmingham Airport always seem to be hostile to spotters, ignoring that they benefit from the security of extra eyes of people with a vested interest in understanding the intricacies of airport workings. All the while banging on about Project Servitor.

Yes we remember that , before the runway was extended , along with the old Clock Pub👍

In the mid-90's, there was a field to the west of runway 33 with a large house or hotel, that was accessible via the old Elmdon part of the airport. I went there a couple of times, and you had a pretty good view of landing and departing planes, but it looks form various maps that that has now gone and the field inaccessible, which is a pity. Back in those days, there were a good few British Airways BAC 1-11's coming and going . . .

It would be interesting to look at a old OS map to see where the footpath was before the runway extension was built. It is likely that the footpath was moved. I don't know what the legal process is for moving a public right of way and one would hope that it was correctly complied with but I would not be surprised if it were not!

They really need to do better with The Mound, with it's access, it might be fenced but it's still easily accessible, if it is out of bounds like they say it is then they need to do a better way of keeping it out of bounds, that gate that anyone can easily access by lifting the handle and opening it, can easily walk through, and the fences where anyone can climb over. Just saying like over that side they need better viewpoint of the runway for Photographers.

I had the same issue a few years ago on land at the back of the old Tristar hotel. Tried the “it’s private land” argument but they were having none of it, so left before they turned really arsey.
@AirportAction15 күн бұрын
Yeh we had that issue with the airport contacting the Tri-Star , because they kindly let us film from there own carpark 👍

@fordwrc200616 күн бұрын
The Police can’t stop you going up the mound because it’s publicly accessible land. I’ve been up there a few times with my DSLR camera taking snapshots. If it’s private land then it’s a civil matter and the police can’t do anything anyway, they have no power.
