It seems statistically and fiscally unlikely the farmer would accidentally have the correct bullets loaded to take down a weirwolf.

Meh, it turned out it is just a completely normal wolf really Scientists testing the wolf said when it arrived they were confused with the statements that is was a weird, wolf-like animal, since it was just a normal looking wolf. The ears seemed bigger, the arms and paws smaller, but it was because of how the photos were taken. They said it was a normal, 2-3 years old female, and that's it lmao

@IstasPumaNevada6 жыл бұрын
For those that don't know, wolf dogs are generally not a good idea. When you breed a wolf with a dog it's basically a dice-roll as to how much of the characteristics of each you get. You can get a wolf-looking canine that acts like a dog, but you can also get a dog-looking canine that acts like a dangerously untame wolf, and everything in between. Bottom line, it's best for everyone involved if you don't encourage breeding these two animals.
@themink174 жыл бұрын
We have the same thing with Dingos. However a "little" bit of dingo in the mix is a good thing. so Quarter breed Dingos are generally smarter than normal dogs - but still dog-like enough to be fun to hang out with.

As someone who actually has met a semi-domesticated wolfdog up close (in a sex-toy shop ... don't ask, it's a Story), I can testify they are big mofos. She stood about a meter at the shoulder and was roughly the same size as an Irish wolfhound (which I've also met up close). She politely sniffed me, and I politely let her, and gave her a skritch behind the ears which she seemed to enjoy. For all that, I would NOT have wanted to meet her without her owner around to remind her of her manners.

I can’t remember who said it, I think it was Jack London, but some famous writer said that the eyes of wolves are the most similar to the eyes of humans, and when we look at them, we see something of ourselves in their cunning and ruthlessness and intelligence. Which I think is too complimentary to humans, but it is true that the eyes are very unnerving and mysterious.

I guess don't fuck a Lama is a good piece of advice, but I feel like it's a little obvious, don't ya think?
@SomeoneBeginingWithI6 жыл бұрын
What if, instead of having one guard llama, you have multiple guard llamas? So if the wolf does kill the first llama, it still has to fight 2 or 3 more before it can get to the sheep. That would be more of an upfront investment than buying one llama, but you could get a more effective defence system out of it, without the wolfdog issue.
@OrigamiMarie6 жыл бұрын
And I would have to guess that if a wolf has to deal with more than one llama at the same time, it's going to get harassed back into the wilderness before it does much damage to any of the llamas.
@agilemind62416 жыл бұрын
Hank left it out of the video but depending on the size of the flock to be guarded farmers usually have multiple guard animals, and often of different breeds for maximum protection.
@remuladgryta6 жыл бұрын
At what ratio of guard llamas to sheep do you stop being a sheep rancher and become a sheep and llama rancher? :)
@gnarthdarkanen74646 жыл бұрын
Fair enough question... I would posit, that somewhere in the 25-30% territory, you're no longer just using the llamas for sheep protection. Llamas and alpacas are also raised for some textiles... Alpacas particularly for their softer hairs... AND before you freak right out, they're generally sheered exactly like the sheep for wool... With highly skilled sheerers and good equipment, a fleece is very much the same principle from one to the next... Along with Agilemind up there, the ranchers I've known have employed Donkeys as protection animals... I'm actually kind of surprised this wasn't mentioned either directly in the vid' nor anywhere in the Comments that I've looked... Donkeys are particularly aggressive against predators, along with being generally willful and kind of a pain in the ass to domesticate for personalized purposes... At the same time, once you manage to befriend a Donkey, you've got a pretty damn stalwart friend. They have been known to run themselves to death to please their chosen masters... so there's that. I've been kicked and spat at by llamas... AND I was threatened by a donkey once... I backed straight down from the donkey, though... that's a whole lotta "nope". ;o)
@oswegoicebox30646 жыл бұрын
Anyone trying to successfully use LLAMAS against WOLVES is going to be very disappointed. If a wolf is hungry, a llama is definitely going to be a good snack, and no llama would be stupid enough to try to fight a wolf. Llamas are not guard animals, and I don't know why the myth that they are is so prevalent

guard dogs are usually raised with the sheep so they view them as family/pack. they are often more attached to the sheep than their owner. which can be tricky if the dog doesn't view the owner as the parent/leader of the whole flock+dog. know a lady in my area who raises dairy goats and has a guard dog. the dog really only responds to her. she doesn't let other people be around him much in case he views them as a threat to his goat family.

Frenching the llama is acceptable. Anything beyond that is frowned upon.

It's okay as long as you're not a wolf.

Haven’t seen a vlogbrothers or hank’s vid in ages. This was an excellent one to come back to.

God Hank I don’t normally comment but these videos recently have been some of my favourite KZbin videos ever.

i’m honestly living for these like rambly hand vids and they’re always such a surprise i LOVE this also you eventually losing the polite “do it” language and just being like “a wolf is not gonna fuck a llama” is absolutely hilarious

Loving stream-of-consciousness Hank, especially the ending point of advice.

There's something about this post(?)(Is that the right word?) that's intensely beautiful and awesome. I think it's one part that it feel much less scripted than usual, and one part the sheer awe-inspired terror/incredulity that you have for the wolf-dog. The wolf-dog is, like, BIG. Wolves are REALLY BIG. I've always liked wolves, I think wolves are great, I've never watched something that made me feel apprehensive about wolves before this. That's awesome. And of course there's one part sheer curious geekery. It's fun and cool to look up things on the fly. And then there's the Llama.

I had to pause the video multiple times to collect myself. Listening to Hank curse is weirder than hearing any of my old school teachers curse was.
