Gotta love all the LA Prius drivers that sit on their high horse shunning at places like Texas and the Bakken.

Hey bro just wanted to say that today in 2022 as a young man in LA who had no idea this was happening till yesterday, this is the best video on the subject. And it’s 11 years old. Thanks for the knowledge.

Very well done... It's odd that although LA has such a deep foundation and history in oil, there's almost a lurking sense that most of the operations had just ceased and vanished, except for in the obvious places where you can see the wells, like Signal Hill and Compton. But it's still as strong as ever, out of sight and out of mind. Thanks for the great info...

I never noticed those after about 35 years! My rural area wants to be drilled for oil.

we need to drill more!! We are paying too much for gas especially in Los Angeles.

Not hardly. "We," the American public, do not get to use the gas & oil pumped out of our country. Our US gov't buys gas & oil from other countries & ships it over here at the arbitrary, temporary, & fluctuating prices determined by OPEC nations (think Saudi Arabia). American gas & oil is sold to other countries as a negotiating tactic to keep their money flowing in to the Big Gas Corporations that flows back to influencing the US gov't. US gov't & Big Oil are bedfellows. The rest of the US pumped gas & oil is stockpiled for the US Military Industrial Complex for their use only. The Big Gas & Oil Corps. jack up the price for Americans & blame the OPEC nations for the high prices. There are no more small, family-owned, small partnership gas & oil companies left. They have been bought out or forced out by the Big Gas Corps. All those land owners should be getting a slice of the profits from their gas & oil being removed from their collective properties, but they are not. They are unaware that a.) the gas belongs to them, not the drilling & extracting corps., b.) they are unaware that they are not being told they are the rightful owners of the gas & oil being extracted, c.) none of the owners think: "Gee, there has to be Large areas of crude that are spread out under my land as well as everybody else's, so resource extraction is being done with My resources/Our resources, so therefore, I/We should be getting paid for the crude and/or the rights to drill out My/Our deposits." I have simplified things a bit much, but the basic principles apply to ownership & compensation.

Knew about the Beverly High rig, but the rest, wow, this is really surprising to me!

the well at the school and mall are not drilling rigs. those are workover rigs, they service already existing oil wells. great story though.

people are riffing on the narrator being boring but i had a bigger problem with how the levels aren't adjusted properly so the music drowns out his voice and i can't hear anything he's saying. his mumbling makes it worse. informative video though.
