it’s interesting that the auto-captions seem to be somewhat understanding the context of what’s being said in south korean whilst simultaneously being almost useless.

This is some seriously cringeworthy journalism. This is no different from all religions. They all use hierarchy and power to influence people. No religious institution have avoided scandals.
@MokerPrankzzz7 ай бұрын
This is not the same this is more a satanic thing. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled is convincing humans that he does not exist. So you would easily blame religion.

I saw a tour of this place many years ago in greater detail than this and in English on KZbin so this is not the first time tv crews have seen it.

what defines a cult? getting people to believe in things that may or may not be true? isn’t that the same definition of all “faiths” these days? Every mainstream faith could be construed as a cult, tell me I’m wrong and why, please
@Soffity5 ай бұрын
There is a definition of a cult over mainstream religion. There are lots of good articles on it if you search the web. The main ones are The leader says they are a god or prophet and have special powers and put themselves over the other members. You’re separated from society and your family and only mix with other member’s of the cult They divert from mainstream scriptures and expect unquestioning obedience and complete compliance to those beliefs. Their way is the only way. Forgiveness and grace are replaced by discipline and obedience. I’m not part of any religion so have no agenda. I don’t like the control a lot of religions have over their followers but that’s just my view. I know a lot of people get great comfort from believing in God and following a religion.

There is a definition of a cult. If you search the web you will find some interesting articles explaining the differences. The main ones are The leader/s say they are gods or prophets and therefore superior to everyone else. They know and are privy to things you are not. They use fear, manipulation and isolation from anyone not in the cult. You become so reliant it’s often very difficult or as in Jones Town impossible to leave. They say their way is the only way and everyone else is wrong. They expect unquestioning obedience. Grace and forgiveness are replaced by discipline, dependency, and authoritarian control. Members feel they are flawed and the only way to fix/help themselves is to follow what is being “preached” to them. As I’m sure you know, you can get the bible to say just about anything you want it too if you take it out of context, leave bits out, talk about ineffective translations by the editors etc etc. It’s interesting to read about how the bible as it is today was put together in the first place. What was left out and how it was translated from the original language. I think many “mainstream religions” especially those with their own “religious texts” those that insist on sexual control, control over what you eat or drink and compulsory tithing are cults. but that’s just my view. I don’t follow any religion but I’ve had friends who have been involved in cults and I know how destructive and all consuming they can be. If you have no friends, family, accomodation, money or job outside of the cult it’s very very hard to leave. All the best to you. 🌈🦘

This occurs all over the world- but it's good to question & challenge what the line is re: coercive control & authoritarian influence, within our society/community... & to expose/warn ppl of dangerous groups.
