@@jonathonsmith6831, I wonder what it would be like if people acted face-to-face in the manner which you are acting here through cyber channels. I for one am very glad that for the most part, people don't. We may have thoughts along those lines. But in the non-cyber world, we typically apply more robust filters that prevent unkind thoughts from being expressed. There is a lot that is encapsulated in that word... kind. It indicates that there is a recognition that we are of the same type of being. Humankind. And the essence of the concept of kindness is that once we recognize that we are of the same kind, then we can apply the concept of respect. Meaning, that if we do not want a certain thing done to ourselves, then we will refrain from doing it to another. We will act kindly toward them. You yourself may not care about the Notre Dame Cathedral. But there is probably a building somewhere that is special to you, for some reason. The quality of kindness is imagining someone else dismissing this special place of yours as 'just a building', and making a mockery of it if that place were to meet some tragic event. The irony here is that the building we are discussing is one that was dedicated toward helping to teach this value of kindness and respect. Of course there will always be those who do not get the message.

yes the wood and the roof but it could have been soo much worse, 400 firefighters fought this fire for 9 hours, they said though the iconic organ and the 1250 giant three rose window was unscathed as well as most of the priceless relics like the crown of thorns, good thing this was made of stone a wood church and plaster would have suffered soo much more damage like most of the churches we have in america, or rather the altars and plaster statues, both the altars still stand and the cross on the piata of the Our Lady Holding the Body of Jesus under the Cross still stands, one of the first things I noticed in the photos of the fire the cross still stood triumphant despite the ruin around it, and the stonework was still intact, It really is almost a miraculous occasion that they were able to save soo much of this nearly 1000 year old building. That its main attractions were spared such a large fire that lasted soo long, even the organ I thought that was destroyed for sure with such a huge fire.

I realise it's a sunny day but I think there's a massive show of disrespect by going to a Church in shorts and a vest.
@manga125 жыл бұрын
yes it is and a cathedral no less, in rome in several of the major churches like st peters, and st pauls you are not permitted to wear shorts or short sleves, those are major basilicas though, but they also apply to many of the monastary churches and chapels out of respect for the house of God, I never wear shorts hardly anymore, save for when I run or work outside, but wearing long pants once can get used to even in rome italy where I am pretty sure its hotter as its in the south of italy and it is muggy as florida being 20 miles or so from the mediteranian sea, the modern romans well most of them have the philosophy of bella figura or basicly put your best foot forward, and wear at least buisness casual type clothing as we would call it stateside, its not the most avant guard fashion place like millan or paris at fashion week but they do usually dress up a little, unless they are working at a dirty job like construction or something like that I wore jeans at least and a shirt that came down to my elbows almost at all times I was there, that is my mesurment of modesty, and has been since at least 2006, after reading the book mary like modesty, while I dont wear a shirt when I swim, and run with my shirt half on or compleatly off in the summer I cant have it off long as I burn very quick as I have fair skin, only time I really ever wore shorts to a church was after running in south bend indiana, where it finishes at ...... wait for it....... The university of Notre Dame, on the 50 yard line of the football stadium where the fighting irish play, or if not there right before the iconic touchdown Jesus on the library, the minor basilica they have there is quite beautiful in its own right, its called the basilica of the sacred heart actually on hallmark channel in the states years back they used to show the sunday mass from there along with other services from famed churches, I visit to thank God for being with me during my road race after I finish that is the only time I have worn shorts in a church as I just get done running I pull my shorts down a little and untuck my shirt to cover up more though as it is a house of God and a grand one that seats about 1200 people I think they said. in the continental gothic style I belive the docent said of the church archetectural style

Okay has anyone in this comment section actually looked up what it looks like now? I keep seeing “it’s gone” but it’s clearly not. It’s pretty damaged of course, but it isn’t gone by any means. And they’ve already gathered a lot of money to fix it and this is just days after the fire. So despite the fact it won’t necessarily be in its original state, it’ll still be rebuilt.
