Explorer Patcher Breaking My Windows

Love the idea of Explorer Patcher, but it seems a bit unstable. .

over a year ago, when I was still on Windows, explorer patcher broke my windows install so hard that I had to reinstall the whole OS (and some time later I gave up on trying to customize Windows to what I want it to be and moved to Linux)

Broke your Windows install? Its already installed if you are using it I use StartAllBack and have no issue at all

This is why I don't use more aggressive debloaters and patchers, they always end up fucking up some system component and crashing stuff, sometimes even giving a blue screen

@@motoryzen I personally have no reason to switch to Linux. My setup works perfectly fine and if something works only on Linux or better on it (CUDA-enabled TensorFlow/PyTorch, C/C++ programming tools like Valgrind) WSL2 does the job pretty well. Also, I play games a lot and the MSI software I use for controlling the MUX switch, changing power plans with overclocking and other stuff don't work on Linux, unfortunately.

Any computer into windows and it is online for any reasonable amount of time. You do not own that computer Microsoft does. And they approve of this. Load about little more and more each year across the span of the past 21 years, if not longer. If you were ok, what's the fact that you originally paid to own a computer? But you are in fact only leasing it that's your choice

A year ago, I had an issue with ExplorerPatcher that caused explorer not opening at startup. Great customization, but Windows just doesn't agree with injecting code into explorer.

I use Windhawk to customize/modify the windows 11 taskbar, it's open source and very stable in my use cases and I also use the Nilesoft shell.

i use explorer patcher all the time, mostly because i like my sidebar on the left (since this functionality was removed in windows 11, awesome). havent had many issues with it.

I actually enjoy the new uninstall program menu in settings. For the reason being that you can uninstall multiple applications at the same time unlike in control panel where it asks you to wait for the program to uninstall before removing another one.

Oh boy ... I'm so desparate to tap play on this video. My experience on my work laptop has not been great, as I had (stupidly) joined Insider. 😩 So I've done my best to get out of that, but I think I'm still waiting on the next feature update to fully get out. This means that, essentially, almost every update forced Windows Explorer into a restart loop when Windows started. So I had to either disable patcher or uninstall the incompatible update each time. It was getting too painful to do the latter, so I had to give up an actually workable version of Windows ... 🙁

another thing that can crash explorer upon right clicking is if a program that appears in there is installed on a dying drive

I use Explorer Patcher on all my Win-11 PC's and haven't had any issues with it but I make sure I don't have any programs that might interrupt or cause over-riding problems, I like to use KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid and that goes for my pc's as well

Total Commander is the first thing I install on any fresh Windows installation, from Windows 95 to Windows 11. John Socha's orthodox file manager conception is timeless. Two panels on the sides, command line on the bottom, robust keyboard shortcuts. Norton Commander did it better before DOS Shell or Windows Explorer was even a thing.

if your windows context menu make your windows crash that could be due to somebody linking an "arbitrary call" into it. at least that was what i experienced.. if you could look at the registry see if there is some "funny" auto behaviour added into the context menu "links". in my case, there was an auto bluetooth send, and auto DLNA. and it was hijacking through my nvidia context dll. since whatever it is, it is to execute something that uses the video device. its so easy for hackers(government or rogue) to plant a rootkit on windows boot and windows defender cant even do anything about it. and they simply blame the russian for it.

For me, the File Explorer context menu sometimes even crashes without installing the Explorer Patcher. I HAVE TO REBOOT to Fix this issue once :(

ExplorerPatcher breaks the settings 'Combine Taskbar buttons' and sets them to 'Never' even if it shows 'Always' or 'When taskbar is full' on Windows 11 I have to find another solution

Wow, seriously, an experienced Windows user doesn't know the tool to view the shell extensions in Nir System Tools? I have not been using Windows over a year, so I forgot the exact name, but there is a tool that shows all the extensions and it even marks non-MS extensions so that you could easily disable them.

files community is so much better also check dev options there is Options for explorer that might conflict with others. for anyone ricing windows im pretty sure its because of the "Ribbon'" Tweaks

Yeah...Windows 11 just was a regression from Windows 10. I've since moved to Debian 12. Linux is more customizable with KDE and I OWN MY COMPUTER with Linux. To hell with Windows.
