I agree with you to a certain extent. Yes, the system failed. Yes, her loved ones knew and her father had episodes and was admitted to psychiatric hospital. However, the real truth lies in the absolute denial the entire world and the readily acceptance of mental illness. If I were to be specific, I could argue that, the necessity of looking or being normal within the society of America, the image one has to paint themselves, requires normal people to go to the extreme to do so and ignore any form of knowledge and or facts. Furthermore, if anything, this is a disease that has been around humanity within its entire history. We just don’t have a fail safe system. It’s not that there isn’t a system, it’s just no system is ever or will be perfect. Human beings are flawed. This video is indicative of how willfully ignorance we are of our own kind. The amount of people who at the school had insight, yet no actions were taken. The apathy within us may hopefully be ridden in a couple of hundred of years through evolution. I’m skeptical, but by all means, I’ll be happy to be proven wrong. Morgan will not be the last. I 100% agree. I'm very close to a schizophrenic, and so many things I saw present in Morgan, I see in this person. Even medicated to fuck and back. The way she "Over and over and over and over and over" the person I know does it with "again and again and again again again" the flat affectations in her speech that may seem inappropriate, among many other things. I wholly believe that girl is schizophrenic and if not, she has studied this disease deeply and practiced 100s of hours of faking it. "I don't know why I did that but it seemed really important" person I know has said that a million times. Not about stabbing someone. But she doesn't require an impetus to do something. If you just tell her it's important, she'll commit her entire being to it. I think we've got an edgy, somewhat sociopathic teen, finding someone she can really easily control in her undiagnosed friend. The alternative is Morgan is a literal criminal Mastermind, practiced the whole schizophrenic schtick to the point she could emulate it perfectly, and manipulated her totally normal friend into engaging in a murder without her saying a word to anyone else.

She's also the more aggressive of the two girls, and I also think she manipulated Morgan's illness. Remember, she didn't like Peyton/Bella, and even if Morgan was the only one to actually "do the deed" (that REALLY bothered me, she said it multiple times) Anissa planted the seed, encouraged it, and then lied her a☆☆ off. I hope she has truly gotten the help she needs, is getting therapy, and is HEAVILY medicated, or else she'll manipulate someone else eventually. @@iAstra It's because she was way more malicious and organized in the planning and execution. She tried to deceive eventhough she's not good at it, which may be because of isolation and the resulting social awkwardness. An interesting detail was that she had a reputation for telling on people in school. Most adults would perceive this as something positive and give her word more credence but it could easily be used to manipulate authority figures into punishing the wrong kid. Their motive seems to be very narcissistic and the hierarchical structure of Slenderman at the top and the proxies beneath reminds me of a cult. They wanted the acceptance of the cult leader and the "power" (superpowers) he would give them.

They both deserve just compassion.They both have serious mental illness. There isn't nothing lucid in this crime. Morgan stabbed Bella just because she was the only real close friend she had..the only near person to talk with and to vent to (and to stab).Anissa was just a mirror because in her desperate loneliness she was willing to do everything for that friendship buth she hadn't any thoughts to share but fear of abandonment and jealousy. This crime has been just a consequence of their link, their bond: 1:39:31

@hollygennaro5874 Жыл бұрын
More than likely, the parents didn't believe her and thought she was saying that, just to get attention. Even if her dad was schizo, they figured she was just mimicking him. I used to get bad earaches as a kid, but my mom insisted I was making it up. I'd gone to a doctor when one day my ears were painful and I had a bad headache and the doctor said for my folks to ignore me; it was fake, and I was attention-seeking. A few years later, I found out from a dentist that the headaches and earaches were from grinding my teeth so much at night. So parents will often gaffe off their kids' behaviour.

I have a feeling Anissa is actually the most dangerous of the two. She could easily be a sociopath - someone intelligent and manipulative. She could have simply been jealous of Peyton & Morgan's friendship, so used (& potentially even fuelled) Morgan's belief in Slender Man to get her to agree to the plan. She would then have had the intelligence to pretend to believe in it too in order to gain leniency. The fact that the first thing she did in the interview was make sure they knew about Morgan hearing voices seems like a calculated thing to say.

Today they have far more access to a wide range of bad influences and bad ideas than even 20 years ago. Much less 40 or more. And even 40 years ago you would do something stupid to fit in. Back then it was probably doing something like a high dive into a quarry, jumping a homemade bike ramp, or some equally mundane dare. Today it's tide pods, emo culture, and creepypasta. All far worse than most of the influences of even the 90's. At best in the 90s it was rock and the budding rap music influences. In the 80's it was have bands. But even those things were minimal because you didn't see it everywhere you went. Even hearing it wasn't as common. You had to live in larger cities or buy tapes/CDs. Internet, and especially streaming services like KZbin were the real change. Both have allowed kids nearly unlimited access to all human knowledge. Good and bad.

Something so creepy about the way Anissa doesn’t grasp the situation at all. She also doesn’t seem to understand that even if she could go to school, the whole town would obviously have heard about this. She seems to think that everyone will treat this like a little fight and that it’s a thing other people will never find out about. Then launching right into infodumping about more fake monsters, thinking any of that stuff is at all relevant or helpful. Even though she just said she doesn’t believe in slenderman anymore she clearly does and is still considering all of these characters legitimate threats to people and thinks it’s helpful for her to share all her knowledge on them.

She would not have known what slenderman was at that age. Kind of implies Anissa showed Morgan the creepypasta stuff, and perhaps Morgan remembered a strange man or imaginary thing she saw as a child and thought that was it. And even admitted that anissa was often aggressive.... It's pretty clear why this happened. Scapegoat schizophrenic to take the fall for murder

this case makes me so sad. anissa manipulated a schizophrenic girl into stabbing the only friend she ever had. its just sad all around what happened.
@user-md3wm7vu1f11 ай бұрын
its plausible, but it wasnt really clear who was doing more of the manipulating or if they both just kind of egged each other on and amped up their own shared delusions. anissa comes across as more manipulative, but morgan did admit to thinking of stabbing others before and had all that violent artwork, and she seemed to believe in the slenderman creepypasta through her own volition (not just because she had been told by anissa or something), though i cant remember which one of them came up with the slenderman thing first

Kids at that age won't just randomly become murderers or have mental problems. Everything they do is learned from somewhere. People they learn the most are parents. So there is a huge chance that they are just victims of bad parenting. Might be some other close people also but 90% parents. IMO these kids should be punished more but i also think they are not completely responsible for their actions.

The psychologists disagree. Anissa wasn't just released. She spent 7 years in jail and a mental institution. She petitioned the court for release. Her psychologists said she was ready. She got permission from Payton Leutner and her family. She is restricted as to where she can go and who she sees, and is not allowed anywhere near the Leutner's. She has to wear a GPS anklet and be monitored 24 hours a day. Morgan also asked to be released, but she is still severely mentally ill, still hears voices, and is still a danger to herself and others.
@Ocrilat3 жыл бұрын
Ok, looking at this more closely. Morgan was charged with attempted 1st degree murder for actually attacking Peyton. Anissa was charged with attempted 2nd degree murder (probably for conspiring and assisting). Both were charged as adults because of the brutality of the crime. Anissa pled guilty, and Morgan accepted a plea deal and pled guilty. Both were found by a jury Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Disease or Defect. Anissa's sentence was 25 years to life, which required a minimum of three years involuntary confinement, and then communal supervision till she is 37 (so counting her awaiting trial, she served 7 years in confinement). She petitioned the court, and with the ok of her doctors, the court, the victim and the victim's family was allowed to be conditionally released. The state created her release conditions, which are 24 hour GPS monitoring, she isn't allowed to leave the county, she can't have any contact with the victim or the victim's family, she has her internet monitored and she can't use social media under any conditions (social media is defined here as any site having any contact whatsoever with other people. So Facebook, but also here or even Amazon because customer reviews count). She is required to take her meds and continue counseling and treatment, and has to live with her father. These conditions apply until she is 37 (the entirety of her sentence, so another 18 years). She showed remorse for what she did, and apologized to Peyton and her community via her statement after sentencing and later written letters (taking responsibility for her actions). I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think this is technically probation, so if she violates the conditions, she goes back in. Morgan's sentence was 40 years to life. The minimum was 3 years confinement, involuntary treatment in a state facility until the age 53 or complete resolution of her symptoms (whichever happens first) and communal supervision till she is 53, regardless of her mental state. She still suffers from severe mental illness, admits to still hearing voices, and is still serving her sentence. She has appealed multiple times, but they have all failed at this point. Morgan also apologized to 'Bella' when she was sentenced, so also showed remorse. (edited for clarity, and my 1000 dumb typos)

(Sorry if this has been commented already, I'm only 2:45 into the video) When the dispatcher asked the biker "Is there any assailant around?" and the biker said "I didn't even look, I don't see anybody" really shows how focused this man was on making sure that Payton was stable and okay. He "didn't even look", he didn't think about his own safety and make sure the attacker wasn't still there, he thought about Payton's well-being and only that. What an absolutely amazing human being.

It's really messed up how Anissa was released from the mental hospital. She clearly is the more devious and manipulative one. I've seen in another one of these that it's hard for people to multitask in these situations, they have trouble faking and lying at the same time. Anissa is in more control than she fooled many into believing. She clearly had more knowledge of Creepy-pasta from her level of detail on the subject matter, then projected her beliefs onto her mental friend; only to put full blame on her also. She is clearly manipulative & I don’t doubt she fooled those who petitioned for her release… Hopefully, this isn’t a, “to be continued..” for her manipulative capabilities. Oh ok, because mentally unstable ppl can't manipulate someone who has a better way of communicating... Come on! She was purposely evasive! She put blame all on Annisa, yet Annisa told about all the in between Morgan failed to talk about. Not only did she talk about all of Morgan's part in this crime, but also took blame for her part in all this. Morgan was a time bomb ready to explode, whereas Annisa would most likely have never done something like this alone. Morgan in a few year's would have been shooting up the whole school!
@hkislam72973 жыл бұрын
Yeah Annissa is in contr for sure. Even when she showed signs of being upset it was not for empathy of another but for her own self. I tuely think that she is a sociopath. Who preyed on morgan. Yes Morgan had issues but along come Annisa the jealous third wheel wispering in Morgans ear and all of a sudden Morgans long time best friend has to die? When ever you see acts of violance in a friendgroup it is either the new girl gets killed or the new girl is the manipulator to kill the long term friend.

Don't forget it was Morgan's notebook that was loaded with imagery of Slender Man. Morgan most likely felt in a moment of clarity that killing someone for Slender Man would be ridiculous or wanted to avoid explaining who Slender Man was to the officer. Though she's both legally mentally impaired and a child at the time, so who's to say why she left that info out to the investigator at first. Her notebook, however, speaks for itself. I'm surprised EWU didn't note that the imagery was heavily reflective of the 8 pages.
