I can’t imagine raising 5 children in that house, it must have been very lively. I love the painting of the St. Louis arch on the wall. This owner has really had a lot of fun and creativity with his home. I really enjoyed this tour. The cabinet in the wall is just fantastic and such a great asset to the home. The owner was super friendly and you can tell how much he and his wife love the place. There’s so much you can do with thrift store finds and create an eclectic feel. Quite amazing that they have so much history about the house. Thank you Ken it was a pleasure meeting Brian. Another great tour, your fans ChuckandMax

I love the metal stars on the brick houses in that part of the country. I'm also curious about the basement. There may have been bedrooms there when the house was first built, as one bedroom seems small for 7 people ( 5 children)...though people did sleep in parlors too, or anywhere else they could fit! What I love about old houses is that even small places for regular folk still had quality construction and interesting details, many of which were very smart for lifestyles at the time. Here in Uptown San Diego we still have a many of the cute one-bed or studio duplexes and tiny cottages built in the late 1920s/early 1930s which were intended for single men coming out to California to work in the fledgling aircraft industry. Built-in desks, bookshelves, and cabinets, fold-down ironing boards, and ice-boxes/air-coolers in kitchens were perfect for a worker who may have moved here with just the clothes on his back. Buy a bed, chairs, table, and they were good to go. Nice to see you back at the tours, Ken. :)

Showstopper is right, referring to the built-in cabinet. I love all the explosive ceiling fixtures, the murals, the chapelesque wall art piece, the lighted bubble gum machine & so many other cool details. I know Brian's wife is partially to thank for the decor. I guess I had forgotten how much I enjoy history mixed with hip, so I watched the video & then watched it all over again. Also, I thought you & Brian were dressed in stylish gentleman's attire for this tour. Well done. Thanks for another wonderful video to gobble up!!

Beautiful renovation/restoration! My mom actually rented this house from about 2007-2015. It needed some love, but she loved it nonetheless. A sweet little home with so many beautiful details maintained over the years. She passed away last year but would have just loved what you all did with the place!! I wish it had been this nice when she lived there, but I’m glad more people will be able to enjoy it. Great job!

What a nice place to stay! It’s a great mix of preserving the old while making it comfortable for modern visitors. That front hall is eye-catching with its fun, colorful decor. I love the floors and windows and all the features highlighted. The fireplace is nicely done with the mural above. And there’s that absolutely magnificent built-in cabinet in the dining room! Swoon! There’s another door that looks like it might possibly be a closet with a smaller closet above it. Interesting! I really liked the bathroom reno for its purpose. It’s cute and functional without looking too “slick” and I love the light fixture there! Actually, I liked all the fixtures - they fit the space and its intended use well! New camera? Everything looks crystal clear and the detail is so easy to see! Well done, Ken and crew! 💕

It is interesting how they enclosed the porch to add extra room. Judging from the outside, it looks like something the previous owner had done. The house looks trendy with the right balance of old world charm and looks like a nice place to stay at.

Thanks for the tour. The architecture reminds me of my grandmother's old St. Louis walk up flat. I always thought the bedroom in the middle of the house was odd, but it's a St. Louis thing I guess. Her flat was laid out almost exactly like your house. You had to walk through the bedroom to go from the living room to the kitchen. I walked by houses like this many times, but I have never been inside one. Thanks again.

Thanks for the tour! The porch was originally open. Can't comprehend having picture rail and not using it. The painted woodwork may actually be historically correct because it certainly wasn't fine wood. The decor is frightening BUT... it's only decor, and the owner has done a marvelous job keeping the structure true to itself. Bravo to him!

Everyone crying about it being an Airbnb, nobody wants to live on the state streets anyway unless they're into hearing daily gunshots. At least someone's fixing up these houses rather than some slumlord overcharging people!

I missed the state street and can’t get the link to work, but…you’re not wrong. My uncle lives on a state street. Sitting on his couch on his phone. Ricocheted (sp) bullet went through window and hit him in the face. Luckily his husband ran downstairs, took care of things, and he survived. I wish he would move. He’s retired and has the money.

You act as if they restored this house with public money and are profiting off of it. They have skin in the game and are taking all the risk restoring an old house with their money. If you’d like to restore an old St. Louis home that’s falling down, there are thousands available. Take your pick, but choose your neighborhood wisely.

I'm going to have to look up age of current home I rent in south city. Same build with white stone and porch on front. The home I lived in around corner on California seemed older. One day a old man who just seemed drunk at first appearance came to door asking to come in. I figured I could take him if he was a threat in addition to him mentioning my landlord's name who I we had a personal rapport with. He came in and gave me a phase of history of home from recent past. He sold home to my landlord, he put the big country ass satellite in back of house that was still present. He split what was rented to us as single home in 2 and his son resided on top floor which was still noticeable due to peep hole in 2nd floor door amongst joined rooms and remnants of a kitchen. Best part was one of kind wallpaper of some sort I can't describe, chandelier in 1st shotgunned room and the historical stars on outside brick used to mark home's after fire in 1849.
