Mamlambo Fossils

Күн бұрын

I explored 3 different rivers over the course of a weekend and found a nice assortment of fossils and even an artifact!
I'll get the petrified wood polished up in my rock tumbler and we can see how it turns out.
If you know what tooth the hastalis looking one is, please let me know!

What a fun trip. I'm glad you found bi valves and shells everywhere, a bit of petrified wood, AND a shark tooth. Not the best tooth, but a tooth none the less. Keep having fun and getting out when the work and weather let's you.😊 😷⚒

I Really appreciate seeing someone exploring the various fossil sites of NZ. Our fossils often get underappreciated. Speaking of which, have you ever been to Reefton? There's a bunch of cool Devonian stuff there (stromatoporoids, Crinoids, apparently the occasional orthocone, and even placoderm and acanthodian fragments). I think I remember you receiving a stromatoporoid piece from there in one of your videos so I'm going to guess you are aware of it.

I have only driven through, I haven't stopped and looked for fossils but someone from the Canterbury Mineral and Lapidary Club did give me some nice fossils from there. We have such cool fossils here in New Zealand - probably some of the best cetacean and penguins in the world!

@MamlamboFossils
@MamlamboFossils Жыл бұрын
It's usually mud that gets turned into a sedimentary rock through pressure, chemical reaction or other factors. Sometimes they form round concretions around the fossil as well, kinda like a natural cement.

I live in a part of Denmark, where I can find trilobits, but to find them, I have to crack stones open, which means, that sometimes the fossil can split into 2 pcs. What can I use, for glueing the stoneparts back together again, so I can prep them from the outside? The stones are a red limestone called Öland limestone. Thank you in advance.

Sorry, I missed your comment. I think CA glue will work but ask around on Facebook as I'm not sure what will work on a trilobite.
