When you look at enough houses you learn period decor. I do genealogy and an forever pouring over old pics and maps and i can tell when houses were built now. There are distinct time frames. Same for clothing styles. Hair styles. Cars is a great example.

yeah but it could b a house built in 1960 completely remodeled in 1990, so u never really know dude.

...And whether it was ever occupied. I notice the light sockets & power outlets in the living room are just holes in the wall with wires sticking out. My guess is the owner ran out of money to complete the mansion, or his business went into difficulty. And so the mansion was left unfinished.

I knew of a cool old house that remained vacant for 12 years. The owner’s relatives said it was because he was in a nursing home. IDK if he was refusing to let them sell it, or if it had to do with other legalities, but eventually one of his relatives moved in & a year later it was bulldozed. That was so long ago that it has reverted into woods. Most Americans have to sell their assets to be able to afford to live nursing home or become eligible for government assistance.

@@sunshine3914 Most Americans also can't afford a multi-million dollar house and all the expenses that come with it.
@devvoid13123 жыл бұрын
The thing many people miss regarding properties like this is overall cost of ownership. Very few can afford the cost of a house like this alone. Even if they were to sell at a discount, very few people can even afford the costs of taxes, insurance, maintenance, fixing the mold and other water damage, etc. You could also be looking at a situation where the owner is elderly, has had to move, and is unwilling to sell the property; that's often why properties like this sit. By the time the owner agrees to sell, passes, etc, the property is much too decayed and damaged to find a buyer.

Doesn't it make you sick? Problem is these mansions are so overly custom designed, it's usually its downfall. Sadly, I'll bet a developer buys it to tear it down and build a multi-unit condo. Too bad you don't know the full back story, original price, who lived here, their profession and such. I for one, (as most of us) would have to hit a BIG lottery just to maintain this place, never mind, taxes and utilities and of course the purchase price! BTW, thanks for the video, it's the best quality and your smooth easy going demeanor is way better than the "other" abandoned home tour KZbin channels out there, you know who they are! Thanks! I'll LIKE it and subscribe. Keep up the good work.

Unfortunately, I don't think any parties were ever thrown there... except maybe by some kids who broke in & had a few beers by the fireplace at 14:25. The place doesn't have any signs of being lived in. There are unpainted patches of wall & holes where power outlets, light fixtures, and switches should be. It looks likely that this mansion was unfinished, and the owners never moved in....

This is a modern mansion that is actually nice, tasteful, well designed, well built, and not overdone. So many modern mansions are just tacky, poorly built, and poorly designed McMansions. The woodwork is also nice. Some older, pre-World War II era mansions can also be tacky and overdone, but at least they tend to be well built and well designed with impressive woodwork.

I had some friends years ago back in 2000 move into a house unexpected as it was foreclosed and abandoned knowing they had to pay the taxes and back taxes i believe, and eventually the owned it legally because they paid the back taxes and kept up with the new taxes on it, he actually made a profit when he sold it 10 years later to the new owners. Not sure if this is still something that is doable today but many people did not and do not know about this loophole.

Finally a fairly tasteful mansion…so many are overdone and tacky to my blue collar roots. That indoor pool is very close to my design for my house. To me, an all season pool is more important than the house part. And I don’t think that pink bathroom is the master suite
