Use to skip school and hang out on that bridge and the hotel I worked there 1 day. I miss the good ole days.

This popped up on my feed and I immediately recognized the place just from the thumbnail and "arch bridge". I grew up there. Most houses in the area are really spread out and no street lights, so at one point the hotel would have people and businesses come to the empty rooms and pass out candy for trick or treat. The hotel changed ownership several times, but I believe before it was Quality Inn, my grandpa knew the owner. There were previously 2 public swimming pools in Prestonsburg, one by Jenny Wiley lake, and the other in Archer Park (if you'd kept walking across the bridge and past that neighborhood, that's the park). Both pools shut down, this was probably early 00s, and my grandpa talked the guy at the hotel into giving us a key card to use the pool. We'd go a few times a month in the summer, until the guy left. We rarely ever saw anyone else there. Not sure if it was a bad location or bad management. Or cursed or something 😂

@@azkaland thanks for the information and history! It’s always surprising when places like these close bc we feel that they are so important and beneficial but it does seem to happen more in southern Kentucky than a lot of other places! We also explored an abandoned house in Prestonsburg a few months ago that is in our video list if you wanted to see it! You may recognize the house! It’s called “Abandoned House in Prestonsburg, Kentucky!” 😌

i worked and really grew up there for 6 years threw and after high school loved that place and all the people that worked there, the old holiday inn sad it has got into this condition and prestonsburg has not done anything with it. started going down hill when they lost the holiday inn franchise and after james d adams passed away.

@@kevinsmiley3547 yeah, it seems like a lot of the area has been starting to decline. The city has so much potential to be great I think.

I believe there is a plan in place to do a bit of refurbishment to that bridge....and reopen it for foot traffic and maybe bikes.

I live about 30 minutes from there. It has only been closed a few years. I never realized there was that much stuff still left. You would think they would have sold the stuff or even gave it away for free. I can’t recall the reason it closed. I love watching abandoned things around KY. My husband won’t let me actually go in anywhere lol. Bummer
