The "Harry Potter" building is called Tuschinski (opened 1921). It is a cinema built in the Dutch Art Deco style. Kiersten mentioned the church striking at 11:45am. That was not a church, but the Munttoren (Regulierstoren built 1480-1487) and used to be part of the city wall. It strikes every 15 minutes.

I am Dutch and I concider a cheese shop like that a tourist trap! Go to the Albert Cuijp marked for real cheese or the Haarlemmerstraat there is a real cheese shop. Sorry to burst the bubble......

The nutella crêpe shops, stroopwafel shops, dubious cheese- & souvenir shops, candy shops, rubber duckie shops & other tourist traps turned my city into a cheap amusement park..

I was really surprised by how those shops are just repeated over and over again. It was surreal.

What’s the places we need to visit next time we’re in Amsterdam? We want to see the real Amsterdam!
@hensenbАй бұрын
@@KierstenandTylertravel After taking in the views (it is beautiful) leave the centre to go explore outside of the tourist trap which the centre has become. The area of your hotel is good (Jordaan). The north part of Amsterdam is less touristy but very much a cultural hotspot. Westerpark area is beautiful for a stroll and a visit to the old factories that have been converted to museums, cinemas and what not. So yadayda, get out of the centre 😁

The trash situation in Amsterdam is a combination of too many tourists and an underfunded garbage collection service. It tends to be a lot better outside of Amsterdam.

Clock towers in the Netherlands usually strike once on every quarter hour, and count the hour on every whole hour.

Don't know if you tried it: the Indonesian and Surinamese kitchens. Some breads / sandwiches with Rendang. Or Surinamese Roti. Good times!

People getting the bottles of drink out of the trash bin and make a mess. They get 15 cents per can or bottle. Also the birds try to get the food out of the bins which also makes a mess

When ppl call the cops on you for making too much noise, you have to be really stupid and do stupid things when the cops arrive for you to get arrested. This is not the USA. A warning is appropriate in that scenario, so that's what you get.

the 15 cents for small plastic bottles or 5 cents for small tin cans usually beer attracks the homeless fishing out of the bins making a mess... We don't have many homeless unlike the USA their usually (alcohol) addicts that refuse government assistance for various reasons.

Amsterdam has the biggest historic 17th century old-town in Europe. It's bigger than Venice. While it has been preserved, Amsterdam doesnt have the 19th-century appartement buildings like many other capitals in Europe. The houses are still individual in their own being and are everywhere in the old-town. Nice vid and comments ! 🌹
