As someone who has a family history of paper makers dating back to the 1700s and is currently an engineer in paper mills thank you for documenting this. I've worked in mills from Maine to Texas to Oregon. It is sad to see the industry in decline but at least there are people like you catching one last glimpse of this great history. Thank You. @3:42 that’s actually a kicker. The rolls will go down into shipping on that conveyor belt and that will kick them onto another conveyor belt. I work in a paper mill 😊

Become a millwright and you can work in factorys like this all the time. Working in a 120 year old paper mill right now doing a big shut down changing out those big rollers.

Was a millwright for 42 years worked for two paper mills, both were closed down and disassemble to sell to countries in S. America

I work for an environmental company and we are in paper mills all the time we just shut one down as well

@@artiebellini7229 do you mean shut one down as in stopped production permanently? I'm hoping not but I know paper mills are usually pretty bad for the local environments. When we say shut downs we mean a period where the mill is not in production so we can perform maintenance work.

currently working at a pulp mill in sweden and goddamn I would just love to explore an abandoned mill like this. I know that they once had a paper mill in a town near my birthplace but they sadly demolished the recovery boiler :( dont even know what is left of that place

I dont know when this was the largest papermill, but today we have machine 30+ feet or even wider. I work at a papermill with two machines at 18 feet each.

By todays standard no it isn’t, but in 1860 that was the title given to this mill. Granted the equipment has been updated over its 200 years of operations.

@@paulshea3728 around 1250 tons per machine. We have two, both are kraftliners. One makes white the other one Brown.

@J3n555 We had Number 8 paper machine.It made almost a 1000 tons per day.At one time we had 7 paper machines.Now there is nothing left but 3 power dams on the Abitibi river.

We got one like this here in Powell River. Just shut down in 2022. Made paper from 1912

Iroquois Falls in operation since 1912 closed in 2014.In the 20s we had 7 papermachines and a wrapper machine.We were the biggest mill in the world for a little while.All of it gone.

This place is no longer abandoned and accessible. A.P. Construction Inc., a general contractor based at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, paid $4.5 million in Sept 2021. As of April 2022, construction vehicles are on site and major repaving of the back and train tracks were dug up for further development. New construction foreman trailer is out in back. All new security fencing are up both front and back including along the bike and trail path to get in.

@@DerelictToDecay Ok, I thought so, I forgot about that joint, I recognized the antenna towers, I’m a resident of Killadelphia, haha,, I remember it being closed up, but, like I said, that was a while ago and I forgot about it. Thanks, Be careful out there, lots of cockroaches in those paper mills, it’s gross, I hate cockroaches. Used to be a trucker, went to several cardboard recycling facilities, flying cockroaches, YIKES! Ha.
