Excited that you helped make a film. From what I’ve seen, expert historians tend to be hired and ignored in big productions. A smaller Christian production is the ideal format. And learning from your videos helps my work. Thanks!

Great video Doug. One issue I'd disagree with you on, despite your knowledge of various O.T. texts, is regarding giants, and the height of Goliath. There's a consensus that Saul was probably at least 6'6" tall, and it's stated that Saul was head and shoulders above his brethren. If Goliath was a mere 6'9" , that was only 3 inches higher, perhaps less than Saul. If that was the difference in height, then one would think that Saul might have considered taking on Goliath himself, or that the Israelites would have expected Saul to take on Goliath. Nothing indicates that was the case. In addition, the size of Goliath's spear being like that of a weaver's beam, is probably mentioned due to Goliath being of considerable size and height.

Sure, there were tall people back then. But, the message behind the story of "David and Goliath" is much more than "Saul and Goliath." We aren't fighting a physical battle (6'6" vs 6'9") but rather a spiritual battle. Therefore, we need spiritual weapons to fight spiritual battles. David was chosen for that reason, and therefore relied on just that, above all, faith, salvation, the Word of God and prayer, Truth (Jesus Christ), righteousness, and peace. As well, "...God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world (David) to confound the things which are mighty (Goliath); - 1 Cor 1:27.

I agree! There is no reason for God to allow massive corruption of His Scripture or to lie and build up stories about giants. The information about Og, King of Bashon is a great example too, since it also references his bed having to be made of iron due to his size. The 1800s and early 1900s were times that many giant skeletons were found in America as the built roads and highways. All of these discoveries were documented in newspapers across the country! Trust the Scriptures!! I think Dr. Petrovich has to walk a line in his discipline to not be sidelined or shunned, but still be able to make great discoveries, (like the first proto-consanantal alphabet being Hebrew.)

Please explain why you say that there is no mention of David's tent when the verse says David's tent. I am confused. Thank you.

I looked up the text and the word is not specific to a tent it can as easily meant his home.

Thank you for another great lesson. Do you think that the Gobekli Tepe ruins and the other ruins in the region of Anatolia and modern day Turkey are Antediluvian or dated incorrectly? Thank you for the opportunity to dialogue with you about this.

If they had no giants, then Goliath was carrying huge equipment cause his equipment is described by size and weight that would be proportional to someone larger. I find that hard to believe and would need you to walk through that logic.

What do you mean by 'there is no mention of his tent'? Where do you mean? It is right there in NKJV, KJV, ESV, NIV, and Interlinear Hebrew.

Stone slingers were a branch of several militaries. Google image search Assyrian stone slingers. I think David picked up 5 stones because it was a reasonable amount to carry in one hand, he knew that God would give him the ability to conquer this Philistine, but he didn't know if God would do it with the first stone or the fifth, or yet some other way.

Standing stones were boundary stones. God probably hates boundaries because boundaries divide the land, causing some people to be deprived of self-sufficiency.
@notlob7187

No. In the law God curses people who move the boundary stones. He is a strong defender of private property. But he also ensures families will retain their allotted land as an inheritance via the restoration in the year of Jubilee.

Amazing that this man supposedly uses archaelogy to prove the bible is right and then either re-translates the scriptures ( because he is an expert of course) to fit his narrative. He also refers to the Dead Sea scrolls and other extra-biblical texts which are not innerrant because they are not inspired. He makes up his own bible. These so called lectures are nothing more than a platform to boast of his work. Maybe he should consult with brother Kurt Wise on what bible belief really is and what it is to be a believer.

Dr. Petrovich uses his own translation because he is competent to do so. Many other well trained men do the same. When the tiny details matter, it's best to go to the originals. It is the originals that are inspired not the translations.
