In today's episode of Exploring Bangkok by BTS brings us to the Sai Luat Station in Sumet Prakan. This neighborhood brings us through local Thai neighborhoods to explore Wat Phuttha Phawanaram, stop at a local Thai Food court and even visit with a local tailor. Then we cross to the other side of Sukhumvit to explore the neighborhoods closer to the Chao Phraya River and visit several Chinese Shrines including the beautiful Thai Hong Kong Shrine where we pop up to the roof to see a massive statue. This series looks to unveil unseen Bangkok and unseen Thailand.

Thank you, we work hard on them and they are a lot of fun to shoot and edit. 555 I am actually working on a video about the connotation that goes along with the phrase "The Real Thailand" interviewing some people for it including a few Thai professors, a few well known Thai personalities and some others. I'm sure it will get an.... interesting response.

I made the joking reference above because I somewhat disagree with your comment (as a blanket statement of fact) that it is a "lazy way of thinking," if by that you mean "only" a lazy way .... I think in a not meant to be disparaging connotation it can simply mean "untainted," or a whole other range of things and just indicates the speaker's feeling about their subject. In any case, it should make a great point of departure to further explore language and meaning in a cross cultural context. Art, architecture, literature, food, fabrics, politics, social issues and culture - I love the way you cover all these things in your media output. Cheers!

Thanks Scott, it means a lot that you see the work that goes into what we create :-) As for "the real thailand" being lazy language, I meant that it is a very none descriptive way to describe something, and while it might not be meant in a disparaging way, and I agree it almost never is intended to be so, it's still a phrase that is offensive to a lot of Thais as will be explained by Thais in the video I'm working on. So I think it's lazy in the fact that someone could be far more descriptive in what they appreciate about s certain area or place while not using a phrase that many Thais see as offensive. at the very least, it's a phrase that won't age well. I'm also planning to explore the term expat, which I'm sure might not go over so well with the "expat community" but it is what it is. But I think that will be much less of a hot take than "the Real Thailand"

These type of “ exploration” videos are wonderful :-) thank you The tailor shop looked wonderful :-) I recall once I needed to trouser length adjusted and went to one of these type of shops The guy looked at me..looked at the pants and started adjusting I didn’t even need to put them on for him. I know I'm late to the party for this one, but another great episode. Knowing you a little and the area you live in now, do you think this is a place you guys could live? As a reference point at the beginning of each video if you could mention how many minutes the stop is from central Bangkok I think it would help frame the area. just a suggestion

Hey James, Thanks for checking it out! I would like to think I could live anywhere if I had to, I would just try to make the most out of it. However it would be a departure from the lifestyle we live now given that our studio provides not just space but is an a neighborhood we enjoy and provides access to other things we like to do. We are fortunate that we could pretty much choose to live just about anywhere in the city, it just so happens BangChak is our choice.
