LOL. My take on her disappearing siblings is that Tutti started using her real name "Stacie" as she grew older, just like Kelly became Chelsea. As for poor Todd, much like what happens on some reality shows, he opted out of being in the limelight and embraced his preteen privacy.

I get why barbies current friends have no names (so they're more customizable for play, like you get to make the name/story etc) but I do miss when they had names and were a lot of times released alongside barbie in all the different barbie lines.
@FrenkTheJoy2 жыл бұрын
I bet part of why they don't have names now is because some people wouldn't buy the same doll twice - like why would I buy Babysitter Whitney and Rollerskating Whitney when I already have Skateboarder Whitney? I'll just buy an outfit, which is less expensive! But if they don't have names then you can justify buying "Babysitter Friend" and "Rollerskating Friend" when you already have "Skateboarder Friend" because they don't have names so they can be different dolls, which costs more to you but is more profit for Mattel! That's just what I assume is the reason.

Blaine actually started in the Generation Girl line before he became her boyfriend. And the reason why the friends “disappeared” in 2015, was the fashionistas reboot (yeah, it was rebooted). The modern fashionistas is actually a budget line that took the original name from the pivot Barbies from 2010 to 2014, including the original Fashionistas (who could move, whole point of the fashionistas, so they could pose), the Life In The Dream House line, and any doll with articulation from that time. So when they rebooted the line, they removed the articulation and thus also removed the names. But the dolls are still in production under the line, just named different. Honestly I wish they would bring back Raquelle, Summer, Midge (who I always think has duck like features, in a good way), Miko/Kira, Grace, Darren (from the Sis line), Ryan, and a bit more for the It Takes Two line, so they can have more characters in the line and the show. Also Barbara “Barbie/Brooklyn” Roberts wasn’t added. She’s new, but I think she’s going to be one of Barbie’s/Malibu’s friends.

I just discovered your channel while shopping for a dream house for my great nieces. Being one year older than Barbie herself, I was fortunate to own the original ponytail Barbie, the original Ken, Skipper, Midge, and Alan dolls, as well as the cardboard fashion shop (my fave), the plastic Barbie "apartment", the orange Austin Healey car, and boxes and boxes of Barbie clothes. I have so many amazing memories of playing with Barbie and her friends and MY friends throughout my childhood. Not content with a fashion model Barbie, we would build entire Barbie CITIES, complete with many businesses run by my friends' Barbies and Kens. We had gas stations, grocery stores, hospitals, schools, swimming pools, all operated by Barbie and her friends for the rest of the Barbie "townspeople". We made "playing Barbie" an extensive, intricate, and beloved experience. Through the years, Barbie has been so criticized for her appearance, her "dumb blonde-ness", her unnatural body type, and her elitism, and although warranted in some cases, it makes me sad. The way WE played with Barbies, it was extremely educational and it positively impacted our intellectual and social development. I haven't approved of everything about Barbie throughout her history, but I hope her critics realize she can play an extremely important role in childhood creativity and learning. Thank you for your channel and for bringing back some wonderful memories of my own 1960s childhood.

A good list. You did forget a few of the earlier dolls. Barbie's "MODern"" cousin Francie (Fairchild) had a friend named Casey (1967-70) with the same face mold and body size. Mattel also introduced British fashion model Twiggy (1967-68) using the same face and body which was the first doll in the Barbie world based on a real person. There were plans for a Becky doll in this line, which was advertised, but never produced. Later, Mattel released this as a special edition doll in 2009. Another famous friend of Barbie was Julia (1969-1972) based on the television character played Diahann Carroll. This era also produced a Truly Scrumptious doll based on the character from Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang, and a Miss America doll all in the Barbie line, some of which were absolutely lovely dolls.

Then there was Delia and Renee who looked Asian, Kira and Kitsie with brown hair and blue eyes, Madison with dark hair and brown eyes, Tamika who was of African decent, and Viveca with strawberry blonde hair. I think that just before Mattel decided that everyone should find a Chelsea, Stacie, Skipper or Barbie similar to themselves (so no names on friends), Madison became a redhead.

I thought the loss of friends was because it was the Barbie doll line - Tereasa's not a Barbie - only Barbie is a Barbie (in the minds of children) - that's why you have Malibu and Brooklyn both named Barbie Roberts. Skipper doesn't have friends - they are all Skipper, they are all Chelsea. You have the "main" Barbie, Chelsea, and Skipper - but ALL female adult dolls in the Barbie line are now named Barbie. MGA has it easier because their doll lines aren't named after a single doll and they didn't shoot themselves in the foot in the late 50s. I'm happy with this in part because when I was growing up the stores around me only sold blonde barbies - if there was a Raquelle or Kira or whomever there'd be one in a smushed box hiding behind the barbies.

Apparently PJ 's last name is Robert's and is listed as Barbie's 1st cousin so maybe it's milificent daughter. Francie Fairchild is Barbie's British cousin. Who has a friend Casey Truehart who is also double for twiggy.

Thank you for doing all this research, it must’ve taken ages! It’s worth it though, I feel more educated now!!! A video about the rest of her family members and friends from the movies would be great 😍

They were not Mattell nor Barbie, but the Quints dolls by Tyco were Barbie-like enough that I played with them alongside my Barbies and pretended they were my Barbies' babies.

you forgot to mention that when the barbie horse movie came out. those "twin " cousins she had called max and marie or something like that. those dolls are like the modern "TODD AND TUTTI" AND THEY ALSO MAde a mary poppins doll version of todd and tutii too

Specifically the Mary Poppins ones were "Stacie & Todd as Jane and Michael".

Steffie is so cute, it's sad that she barely appeared... she would be perfect for a more "countryside" approach to Barbie dolls
@isabeld.paredes4923 Жыл бұрын
The "countryside" approach you mentioned here reminded me of The Sunshine Family dolls of the mid-1970's, who never lived in the city, unlike Barbie, her family and friends

I'd love to see a few videos focusing on each of Barbie's friends & family individually like a video all about Midge for example and maybe you giving a brief history plus talking about the first doll they had and mentioning a few of your favourites from there particular line and if they appeared in a show or movie talking a bit about that too. Seeing this video makes me want to learn more about each character in the Barbie line.

@**Spirit(Holly)** She really is I think Midge is a really pretty doll, it would be so cool to see a video about her.

Great breakdown of Barbie's family and friends! I do want to point out that you forgot Tara Lynn, she was in the "Western Stampin Barbie" line in 1994 and sadly was never seen again. Beautiful doll that had black hair and wore the red outfit and they also used the steffie facemold. ❤

The Kayla doll actually came out in the 1980’s! She was very hard to find! The dance club from 1989 and blue locket from 1993 were my faves! Having a barbie with my name was amazing haha

Great video! I also wish I could get some of these older dolls, especially Tracy (cuz 😏)... I love the Steffi mold, and wish they would reuse it, along with the PJ doll! I loved her cuz she had brunette hair instead of blonde! And besides the My Scene dolls, my other favorite line was the Cali Girl line and the Summer mold. I wish they would bring her back too!

ohhhh what a cool vid Joey!!! It's like the days of our lives of barbie!! I can't imagine how long it took you but kudos 👏👏👏👏. maybe you could do a timeline one day of barbie's careers 😂. There is one friend that I have that you didn't mention. I think Carla you mentioned from the 70s is actually called Cara. I have the original from my childhood. I still LOOOVE her ❤ Fantastic fun to watch 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍Why don't modern barbies have names???...well, mattel probably didn't want to pay extra for that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is cool to see because recently I was looking into this myself; the history of Barbie’s various siblings/cousins and how some of them get scrapped/discontinued or they evolve into something new/different. I find the evolution of Skipper in particular quite fascinating. Would have liked if you put more pictures up in the video, but still - really cool!
