Blacon station was opened in 1890 by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway and served the Blacon area of Chester.
It was situated on the Chester Northgate to Hawarden Bridge line which saw services running between Chester, Wrexham and New Brighton.
After the station closed in 1968, the line remained open until 1992 for freight (although it shut briefly in the 1980s).
In the year 2000 the old trackbed was turned into a footpath and cycleway running between Chester in England and Deeside in North Wales.
