Exploring Cape Verde's Island Culture | Over the Islands of Africa

Photographer Stéphane is on a hunt to capture the authenticity and soul of the Cape Verde Islands in his photographs. His aim is to explore the landscapes of the archipelago by land and by air, so he meets with fearless pilot Richard, taking a ride in his flying inflatable boat. Together they land on secluded beaches in defiance of the relentless winds, heading from the main island of Santiago to São Vicente, to Santo Antão and Sal. Along the way they meet guitar makers and musicians, distillers and fishermen.

We visited São Vicente and Santo Antão in Cabo Verde over Christmas 2023 - what photogenic isands and a wonderful people. We will definately be visiting again. Nice to see the airport at Ponta do Sol being used - we walked up the runway - and fantastic to see the airport's guardian being given a ride. Grogue was lovely at first, but did become a little strong over the course of our stay.

I watched without sound, I just wanted to see the people and land without out dialogue. Our world and these people are breathtaking. The people and country have experienced so much, I was humbled watching the joy of their lives. We know so little about each other, there is so much more than the conflicts that divide us!
