I'll play devils advocate here. To me, the downsides of Lock Left are that you are allowing players to get downhill at a higher rate and putting your team in rotation at a much higher rate than you would with Zone, Packline, or any defense that offers Gap Help. I've ran Lock Left and I love it, but there are times I get out of it when we play teams that have very good guards we don't want in the paint. Sometimes I feel it's just better to stay in front of our guy, stay out of rotation, and get a good contest on shots off the dribble. With that said, we will be locking left, but these are the things that scare me at times.

Yes, there are things all defense take away and give up. You are right that’s what we are giving up.

It’s great hearing the gaps to be mindful of as well

SMH my guys love two-line layups and the "fish bowl" warm-up shooting drill

I hear you, most players love candy and staying up late too. Gotta tech them what’s better for a serious athlete.

Mark, I was so happy to listen to you speak at the IBCA clinic in Illinois. I'm switching to your drive and space concepts this year as our breakdown offense behind our sets. Thanks for sharing the game. You are one of the best offensive minds in the country. 🫡
