I believe you make a great knowledgeable argument for this breathing technique, for which I was admittedly skeptical about. I will try it. I have been having so much trouble all around. In realizing one of my biggest obstacles is me with my seemingly bottomless anxiety and self doubt. It feels like I'm drowning and such. I am hoping this will help in addition to positivity and determination.

I believe the intent that the monks have when speaking of breathing is to consciously focus on it - it may only give you a moment or two at first, but keep practising and you can get further and further along. It's a little strange at first, but once you get that first moment of clarity, the "OHHHH! THAT'S what they meant!" moment, it's something you can consciously hang on to.
