I experienced the same jolt. The baby face, baseball cap, hoodie visual didn't match the voice personification of a middle aged college literary professor. Man, your Exploring series are on the level of documentaries. You do a great job of thoroughly recounting facts, but something almost more important to me is how thoroughly you acknoweldge ambiguities. Not everyone does this well (looking at many of my college professors), and most people don't understand that doing so helps the listener retain details of more abstract concepts, such as those that would appear in TES, or various mythologies. When things like that are glossed over, at least for me, it's almost like I loosen my focus to match the speaker's loosened granularity--and with your videos, I don't have that problem.

Mortal souls go to Aetherius when they die, if they aren't soul trapped or taken by the Daedric princes. Aetherius is basically heaven, and the various realms of Oblivion are pretty much hell. Aetherius also has multiple realms, like Sovngarde for the Nords, the Sands behind the Stars for the Khajiit, the Far Shores for the Redguards, etc. I'm sure there is a realm for every mortal race, and places for the elves, too. In Skyrim's opening, there's a priestess who says, "As we commend your souls to Aetherius, blessings of the eight divines upon you..." so there's your answer. And I'm pretty sure that only souls trapped inside of Black Soul Gems go to the Soul Cairn, not all souls. I suppose it would be interesting to try and figure out what happens to souls that are used if they aren't in black soul gems.

Thomas Redgrave so what happens to the spirit/soul/essence of a half-breed? For example, what race would you call the baby of Rustleif and Seren when he’s born, and where would a half Nord/half Redguard go, or what Aetherial realm would you consider their “Heaven” to be?

@10:51 - The dragon blood/soul of a dragon is bestowed upon mortals by Akatosh/Aka-oversoul at random. We don't know exactly why Aka chooses to do this. There is however a big distinction between being Dragonborn, as in the PC of Skyrim/Miraak/Hjalti and being of dragonblood, as in that you are descended from one who was blessed as Dragonborn, such as the Septim line of emperors. The prior has the natural ability to shout and absorb dragon souls, and the latter is simply related to one that was dragonborn by blood. You could argue that Aka chooses to bestow the dragonblood upon a mortal right when the "event" of a prophecy is occurring or something like that, but we honestly just don't know how the mind of a god works. Anyway, great series of videos on ES. Loved your other content too. Keep it up!

And it's possible that he learned the first shout naturally, the first being the one where he rips the soul out and that's how he became Dragonborn by using it, and absorbing a dragon soul which would probably rip his apart
