Copenhagener here, sincerely wish you had visited each of the newly opened M4 line (not just the one at the end), since they look absolutely nothing alike and are beautifully decorated. :) But lovely video. I do wish the volume was level, I found myself turning the volume up and down because the music is so loud, but speech so soft.

Not especially the lines in the west - only the lines in the west... The east lines was when it became metro. Btw N.Y., Chicago and others have stretches of their subways over the roads, it's still seen as subway?

No, not only in the west. Østensjøbanen (Vålerenga-Bryn, 1923. Brynseng - Oppsal, 1926, Oppsal - Bøler, 1958), and Lambertseterbanen (Bryseng - Bergkrystallen, opened in 1957, were both run with trams until 1967 when they started running metro-trains on the track (but still with tram-standard).. E.g. wasnt Lambertseterbanen given metro standard until 2010, and Brynseng - Hellerud was upgraded in 2022 to no longer run on tram tracks from 1926 (they could only drive that stretch with a max speed of 30km/h before that).

For the Oslo segment, he only went to the western parts of the city and that's where it's most suburban + overground. The more urban, busy stations are in the east, like Helsfyr, Furuset, Stovner, Carl Berners plass. Most people in the west are wealthier and drive... Also, he only took the two old typed of tram while we're now phasing in lots of new CAF trams who look very modern. So he missed a lot in Oslo IMO. Oh and I see he went in grey winter in Oslo while it was sunny and nice in Copenhagen. Yay, Oslo is just 50 times better than CPH in summer, so much greenery.... So he missed that too. :(

I'm surprised that you used the Swedish names for the Helsinki metro. Finland has, by law, two languages in use (depending on local % of speakers, and so on). Swedish is in the minority, at about 5%, and Finnish is the rest. Officially bilingual (major) towns are, majority-language first: Helsinki (Helsingfors), Vaasa (Vasa), Raseborg (Raasepori). Åland, an autonomous archipelago of islands, is uniquely monolingually Swedish (ie, the municipalities there speak _only_ Swedish.)

I am a Djurgården supporter. So it was really nice to see you get off at Stadion and even mentioned the badges/team emblems on the wall. Yes we moved to Tele2 Arena in 2013. There are 3 big teams in Stockholm. Djurgården, AIK and Hammarby. Djurgården and Hammarby share a stadium as of 2013 and the fans of those two teams are not very happy about it. Djurgården tried to get their own arena close to where the old one was but the city of Stockholm said no that 2 new arenas was enough. AIK also moved to the new arena in 2013 i believe or halfway through 2012 season I don't really remember. That arena was called friends arena but have got a name change to strawberry arena. Djurgården is the only team in Stockholm where the old arena is still standing, because it was the 1912 Olympic Stadium so it is a protected structure and cant be torn down. Djurgårdens women team now play at Stadion.

Stockholm was absolutely my favourite of the four! So many beautiful stations and the artwork is fantastic!

I absolutely love tunnelbana but by far Helsinki metro must be the easiest. It's a straight line with 3 end of the lines, all in one level and the trains going to both directions from the same platform. Can't get any easier than that. Impossible to get lost. The tram network is many times bigger with 27 lines and 346 stops but that is very easy to navigate too. So are buses, local trains and ferries that all forms the public transport in Helsinki. The metro is actually in two cities, Helsinki and Espoo, despite only being a straight line.
@HezuFoto7 күн бұрын
@@joona2000 Remember that there are couple exceptions on that "all trains go both directions from the same platform" rule: Kalasatama and Itäkeskus. In the latter there is three tracks instead of the usual two on all the other stations and it might be possible to configure the traffic to use the tracks sharing the island platform, but in practice the default operation uses the tracks that do not share the platform. And pity this video was shot last summer when the station closure split the metro network into two. The older, eastern parts of Helsinki metro look somewhat different, especially since much of that goes above ground rather than underground.

Oslo metro has a daily ridership of 200 000. Stockholm has one of 1 265 000. More than 5 times more even though Stockholm is not even twice the size of Oslo population wise. This means that the Stockholm metro has to be much more efficient to manage this amount of people. So I would disagree.

I live here in Oslo and tend to use the bus instead if i can because the Oslo Metro allways seems to have stations and lines closed for maintinance. Now in the winter the stations are very cold and they are wuite ugly. All lines go thrue the central part of town but no lines to inner parts of the city as it spreads put above ground like s liight rail system to all the suburbs.

Does the Oslo Metro run 24/7-365 ??
@Togangehver14dag7 күн бұрын
With all due respect to the Oslo metro, I would say it's the worst of the Nordics. Yes it has the most stations, but also the lowest percentage of underground stations. The whole network is to me rather a form of "super-tram" or an equivalent to Copenhagen's S-train network than a "real" metro. Stockholm has the same problem with bottleneck in inner city and doesn't even have a ring line (although the yellow line will be a sort of a ring line when it opens), but it has the most underground stations (and most of them have really beautiful artwork) and as Nils points out above it's also the most used network of the Four, although Stockholm is only slightly larger than Copenhagen and not much larger than Oslo and Helsinki either. Copenhagen has small, but high frequent trains that run 24/7, it has the highest percentage of underground stations and covers most of the city centre in a Paris-like way (although the suburbs are very poorly connected - there you'll have to use the before mentioned S-tog instead). Ofc it's also the most modern network and is 100% driver less. Helsinki is, although being 20 years older than Copenhagen's metro, the smallest as it hasn't really been extended that much - only a single branched line with 20-ish stations. That is a shame because i really like Helsinki's metro too with it's long trains and wide platforms. But if I should make a list I would say: 1. Stockholm 2. Copenhagen 3. Helsinki 4. Oslo
@rowaystarco7 күн бұрын
I live in Oslo and the metro mostly runs very fine. Way better than the trains anyways.. And last winter the buses had major issues. The metro is extremely important for Oslo transit, but the city desperately needs a new city center tunnel.@@andywessel
