I really enjoyed this video, thanks. I got to say the doorways definitely have a moorish influence, the arches to the doorways are very symbolic of those you find in the Maghreb. Also I love the yellow and white exteriors of the buildings. It’s interesting to note this was an intentional design decision regarding the climate in terms of keeping the houses cool in the heat.

Hello callmesteam! Thank you for the lovely compliment. Évora was certainly stunning with the preponderance of white and yellow buildings. As we like a bargain, we try to book a bit in advance, but were also stung with loads of bookings to cancel when covid first hit, so we now tend to book maybe 3-4 weeks in advance, especially in summer! ~ Mandy 😀😁

Thanks for letting us know how to pronounce Evora! I used to put the emphasis on the first syllable which is ofcourse incorrect. How lucky you are to have stumbled on the wine festival. We happened to do the same in Lucca and made friends with the sommelier who gave us more than our fair share of wines! Looking forward to your comments on the wines you tried. Thanks Mandy for checking out the free toilets! Can one walk along the aquaduct? or is it only from the other end? If we can make it out of Australia in 2023 it is either Portugal or Slovenia. We will probably spend a month in either country. If Portugal, we will either stick to the north or the south, not try to do both in one trip. BTW the music is integral to your channel - love it. Looking forward to your other videos on Evora. Did you visit nearby towns of Evoramonte, Monsaraz, Estremoz and Marvao. The gardens in Marvao kept coming up on my screen saver and I did not know where it was. It was so wonderful to find out, now I need to find out how to save the picture! While I was watching another channel's video on Obidos I could have sworn that both of you were caught in a clip. I tried to go back and stop the video but it would not allow me to inch along to see if it was Lee and yourself!

Hello Christine! It is always so lovely to hear from you, and to read your excellent comments! A couple of things... the accent should be on the first syllable! I left off the accent mark on the É for the sake of the KZbin search function, and have inadvertently mislead a whole community of budget travellers! Secondly... we didn't end up going to the wine festival!!!! As we were still recovering from our two separate bugs, we didn't drink a drop of wine in Évora, which was such a shame, especially as the Alentejo is such an important wine region! We only visited Évora, but would love to go back and visited the other places you mentioned. Finding a place by way of a screen saver is brilliant! I'm not sure about walking along the aqueduct. I know you can walk along the one in Tomar, but I hadn't read anything about this one. Your plans for 2023 sound excellent! I am biased towards Portugal, as I'm sure you'd have guessed, but Slovenia would also be a great option! Wow... it would be so cool to think we popped up in someone else's Óbidos video! Does your history give any clues as to which video it might have been? Thank you so much for always being so engaged and informative! We really appreciate your support and that you take the time to write such great comments! ~ Mandy 😁😀

Interesting video. Congratulations. You are a very nice couple. Now, on a different note. You use the Spanish word Siesta(an afternoon nap) but the Portuguese word is Sesta(without the letter I). Perhaps the Spanish word has made its way into English and now it is part of the English vocabulary. Anyway, perhaps you could start using the Portuguese word now? What do you think?
