The neighborhood of Fairhaven is just a few miles south of the downtown core, located adjacent to Bellingham Bay. The main thoroughfares running through the neighborhood are Harris Ave, 12th Street, Finnegan Way, and Old Fairhaven Parkway.
Residents enjoy easy access to a grocery store and unique bookstores and shops within the commercial center. Many of these one-of-a-kind businesses are found within the Fairhaven National Register Historic District, which houses 17 impressive historic buildings. Residents in Fairhaven also have easy access to many public spaces.
Marine Park is a quiet waterfront park giving residents space to relax and enjoy some fresh air.
This park is connected by trails that run through the neighborhood and give residents access to Bellingham's City Center, Fairhaven Park, and the Chuckanut Mountains.
Another important public space is Fairhaven Village Green, a cultural hub hosting concerts, movies, bocce ball games, and a farmer's market.
Children in this neighborhood will attend Lowell Elementary School, Fairhaven Middle School, and Sehome High School.
Fairhaven also contains a transportation hub that provides all Bellingham residents with different modes of travel. These include the Alaska Marine Ferry Terminal, the Amtrak station, and the Greyhound bus station. The remaining area in Fairhaven is industrial, with almost all of it owned by the Port of Bellingham.
