I was an original player on Minecraft Addicts from 2011. I directed the Museum build. 8:22 Towards the beginning a big update happened that disabled all of the servers anti-grief plugins and so the place got trashed overnight. When the admins noticed they reverted the world back but the day was then known as D-day. After that every time an updated was about to go through the admins would save a backup and then open the server up to "D-Day" greifing for a day and allowed item spawning for TNT. It was chaotic and fun. The next day they would revert to save and then apply the update. The "Notch sends Agants" to the server reference was a commonly known joke to the players. Some kid logged on and tried to convince everyone he was a Minecraft employee sent by Notch (original MC dev) to check things out. Of course he misspelled Agent and said he was an "Agant". I miss those days.

It was just some kid that popped on the server and started getting mad about something. Maybe we didn’t accept his land claim or something. We were fairly picky about only wanting good builders in the build world. He got mad and started threatening us saying he worked for Mojang and he was one of Notch’s agents, but he couldn’t spell it right. He threatened to have the sever taken down. From then on it was a joke in the community we say stuff like “be careful I might be one of Notch’s agants and I can get you banned”

Another of the folks from HollowWorld here. I've seen several of the abandoned server videos on this channel and what strikes me is the amount of care in all these servers and the positive light you shed on them. I don't think that thought hit me as hard as when you were showing off HollowWorld. It's tragic we couldn't archive the forums fully or save the map. I think it says a lot about the community that had formed that there's so many people here in the comments talking about it, but it was a place that was special to many people, including me. I'm glad that even in the short time you got to experience the place, you were able to tell how much it mattered to folks. I liked your 'abandoned' series before, but this has given me a new appreciation for this sort of video. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Also since everyone is adding their HW (Hollowworld) story, I will add mine. I never cared for the MMO aspect, grinding for power, getting the best equipment and being ruler, waging wars wasn't really my cup of tea. There were alternative playstyles. I liked to roleplay more casual, indulging less into the global affairs of a campaign and more into "slice of life" roleplay with a few friends I still have. Digging deep into relations and the inner workings of a characer. My most memorable character was a young, spry, chaotic Halfling/Hobbit called "Andrew" who is a somewhat underdog fighter, who in spite of his size makes up for it with sheer blinding positivity. I have an entire playlist called "Andrew" of songs I would play during rp to get into the mood of the character. He met a similarly ragtag group of friends at the docks, calling ourselves the dockers and these days were some of the best in my life. And each character in our little group had a part to play. Andrew was the not very bright, but cheerfully crude part of the crew. One was the royal level-headed, studious, but quiet heart of the crew. One was the orderly and snarky daughter of an infamous pirate (The one with red colored profile in your vid) and One a gambling, hardened, morally gray, seafairing hobo whose arc was to warm up to them. Andrew went on to become the Guard Captain of Storms Landing (Spawn town), kill lotsa monsters and demons, be blessed by the God of Justice and join a group protecting the realm, was possessed by a demon for a short time. But I don't particularly care as much for these achievements, as I do for the moments of roleplay that made me laugh, cry and proud. I don't wanna get too misty eyes but the people I played with were my people and helped make COVID less lonely. Perhaps that's why Andrew's core attribute was his bold, unapologetic optimism. Andrew D'Amryun of Astrum, "Sacred of Valiant, Guard Captain of Storm's Landing, Valorborne of the Realmsguard, World's Greatest Halfling Hero and Drinker of Applejuice", the lil legend himself

24:59 I was among Staff on Hollowworld, it’s crazy to see the perspective of somebody not into RP brush up against our little world. I’ll tell you some more about that server incase you were interested: Hollowworld had many plots and server-wide narratives throughout its day. The attack of a necromancer lord, the rise of demons in our midst, among many other stories. These would affect every city, every town, every lordship. Staff DMs would roleplay in all these things and attempt to create a unique personal experience for every character. These DM-run arcs were only a tiny shred of all that happened on the server. Kingdom to kingdom wars took place, lasting up to a genuine real life year. Tons of people involved, field battles, sieges, ambushes, and these recon missions people would make in character scouting reports on. The last one of these which was semi active during the server’s shut down was a warband led by “Branko” establishing a naval blockade on the island city home to what was essentially the dark elves. All of these wars were entirely player done, every decision every general every captain. On an even finer level, you had the individual RP. Characters meeting in the tavern, talking of their journeys. People would make friends, enemies, and lovers in the taverns. Rivalries between characters would create tension and from that would spark conflict. I recall a fair few alleyway scuffles. My personal journey as a Ka’ar nomad named “Suhkoiza” or “Soup” started by unknowingly meeting the main antagonist of the server in a wheat field. What seemed like an old farmer man to Suhkoiza was in reality a globally feared necromancer. The only reason I was spared was his amusement that I didn’t know him, being new to Hollowworld. He ‘blessed’ my face with a bloodied palm, and vanished. I was discovered moments later by a trio of (player character) warriors, who drew weapons on me due to the bloodied palm mark on my face. I had some explaining to do. There is so much to this server. A beloved memory to many. Drama caused about it’s ending months as many people tried to make drastic moves to “save it”. Two projects I know of have started after the closure of Hollowworld, one of which is thus far extremely successful, with 40 or so players online and RPing at it’s daily(~) peak. If anybody has curiosities about Hollowworld feel free to ask below I’ll try to answer as many as I can. If you knew me, “Soup”, let me know because it will make me smile. ❤

I name this server under the guise of “this is the one I play now” rather than anything else. Currently the server I am referring to is “Avalore”. You can probably find it through a Google search or Planet Minecraft. I’ve enjoyed it thusfar and believe it has a lot of good prospects. I don’t intend for this to be a way to poach people under the name of Hollowworld which evokes so many memories, I hope it isn’t taken as such.

So how did it end? Story wise I mean. Servers like Hollowworld are neat to me. I played on a server called Minecracked, same age as Hollowworld. While it wasn't a RP only server, many of us played it as an RP server. Many clans formed, many killed off, and many rebuilt within their ruins. Some of the bases were cool to use older vets of that server because sometimes they would keep sections of walls, or just build ontop of the old ruins. Seeing them would re awaken memories from years prior being there, fighting, and burning it down lol.

Hi, I am one of the old players from Hollowworld called Angryboy at the time, and a leading figure of House Arcturus. I left the server pretty ungracefully, having a pretty bad argument with people before dipping out and thinking everyone was better off without me. I just want to thank all the people who I met over the years there for making me feel welcomed, for helping an Autistic kid actually develop their social skills, and for giving me life long memories. I'm sorry for any grief I may have caused other members in my mood swings, looking back I realise how out of line I was at times and how amazing you had all been to me. My name is Wake, I played as I_am_Wake on Hollowworld. It was truly a life defining server to me, more than just a Minecraft experience as the game was simply a catalyst to build the world in which we would base our text and numbers Roleplay. I played Gromm and Lana Wake, whose profile you showed on this very video. Thank you so, so much for making this video and exploring the world I once called a second home for a great portion of my life. Roleplay is a wonderful way to escape reality, to pretend fantasy, yet feel true real emotions regarding your character and their interactions. The server also seeped into the real world. Bart and I met on Hollowworld back in 2012, and now we are lifelong friends. The large wizard tower you found outside Eldpoint was actually my academy, the Evenfall Academy, which Bart built! I am sad to say you joined after it was emptied of all its exhibits, otherwise you would have been able to see hundreds and hundreds of lore items regarding the servers history, including a library full of real MC books filled with lore, tales, poems and magic by right-clicking on the bookshelves. I am sad to say that before the server was shut down by Lannis against our wishes to continue the server, I had moved all the items and books into a private storage where I had planned to give them a new home if the server ever came back. Sadly, it did not. I have not moved to another Minecraft server since and I feel like a piece of me has been lost as a result. To see this video honour Hollowworld has brought me much bittersweet happiness, knowing each viewer of this video who never knew the world got to see its ending. Thank you so much for this. And yes. It did take forever to get places whilst walking, so we had a network of teleporting carriages, airships and ships. Most of us used /fly to get around and gather resource nodes to craft lore items.

Another Hollowworld player here! Thanks so much for bringing it up, the server was a huge part of many people's lives. I played Avalyn Tideborne, whose profile you briefly showcased in there! Honestly, the server wasn't just a "Minecraft RP" for most of us. It was a giant written, everchanging roleplay and writing project that happened to be played on Minecraft. Never have I ever seen a community made roleplay as grand and as complex as Hollowworld was. There are plenty of servers very much alike it, forsure, but I think HW takes the cake on just how vast it was, and how passionate the players were in their writing. I've spent around 3000-4000 hours there, and I'm not even among the most active. I could talk about it for hours. Where DnD has a DM who controls or guides most of the campaign, the players made most of the roleplay and conflict on the server, though with some guidance and points from lore/event staff. We had incredible writers, builders, artists, musicians, historians and all kinds of creators, and it was a giant collaboration spanning over decades. The events and characters and campaigns, the world was just so alive, for a really long time. There was so, so much lore... A lot of so creative and unique, and a lot of it- err, interesting... And old. But in general, the server was so, so story rich compared to so many projects. Most of us got so into writing our characters that we had arcs for them, some planned and played out, others blossoming through spontaneous events in roleplay. For example, I've played Avalyn since 2020, and she grew from a 5-year-old to the age of 23, and within that time was possessed by an ocean spirit twice, nearly lost her life around five times in server wide campaigns and other events, joined 3 ship crews, became a captain of her own ship, got married, and made so many dear friends... And a whole lot more I could never write into a youtube comment. And so, so many of us put so much of our time into writing these characters, allowing other characters and the world around them to shape them, just so they could return the favor in the setting. The reason it fell apart was... Complicated. It's saddening to say, but it was a decently long time coming. The drama is longwinded and complex, and honestly, a lot of it now is 'she said, he said', because of a lack of concrete evidence outside from people's experiences. I may get some glares from people for saying that, but it is true for the outsiders. It's hard to trust strangers when there's conflicting stories and 'bad guys', but no proper proof, because proof here is hard to document. Anyway, I'm going to so, so very dearly miss the server. We still mourn, as fresh as the deletion is. But thankfully, the community is still somewhat whole, even if fractured. We mourn together. Thanks for showcasing our love for the server, even if in a little snippet :')

Man it's so crazy seeing something that I worked and played on for over ten years being featured in a video like this. So soon after it's ending too. It was so much more than just another Minecraft server for so many people. Saying it's like a big fantasy MMO doesn't do it justice, imo. It was like a whole secondary world that you could just choose to inhabit for awhile as your character. It's a shame some of the best event builds and the cities from old maps weren't able to be featured in the video, and might never be seen again. The map you're on the video was actually kind of controversial in its day, not everyone wanted to move to it. And you're right about the texture pack! Most people used conquest. A lot of the random debris you found on the side of the road were actually remnants from events that were ran there at some point - like zombies rising from roadside graves or bandits or etc. Man! Again this video is just so cool. I met my wife on this server. I made so many friends on this server. If anyone has any questions or anything, I'd love to keep talking about it. The video really only scratched the surface of over ten years of lore.

@@Gamersoul333 DND is underselling it a little bit. DND has a really narrow focus on, say, you and your three other pals and a single DM. On HW, there were several different factions of players, some of them with over a dozen participants, each going about their own independent goals. One of my favorite times was when I joined a faction I didn't know a lot about as a character who apprenticed to the faction's leader. I didn't know anything about them ahead of time, I thought they were just some generic smallscale trading port. Turns out, they had a lot of spies in other factions and were manipulating things behind the scenes to try to get the faction leader immortalized as a god. If I had never joined with them and joined someone else instead, I'd have never known.

Hi! I'm one of the players from the late HollowWorld. I recognise Groi'bel Evar. I believe one of my characters was there when it burnt to the ground. And thats what I loved about that server: Each of those little details you found along the road have a story, something that happened there that only the players who were present may remember. Some have been there a few weeks, some (like Groi'bel) a few months, and many of them... years. I wish you had joined the discord server before the server shut down, I'm sure many of us would have loved to show you around and share our memories of it, along with all the fantastic builds people made for all of their towns and cities. The server had issues, sure, but they don't take away from the memories we made there. The good and bad. I'm gonna miss it.

Right so I already made a comment, but I did want to share my experience with the HollowWorld server because it is truly such a sweet thing that has a special place in my heart. So I actually got roped into joining through my older sister, who was pretty active in the community and helped me get started. I remember making my first character submission and waiting with held breath to see if I had been accepted, and the immediate excitement and happiness I felt when I did. Soon after that, I found myself meeting some pretty amazing people through the game! I got to interact with other people, and my character, a 6 year old kid, got roped into joining a sea cult haha!! Another thing about this server is that it wasn’t just go online and find someone to rp with, although that was still a big part of it. But a lot of it was also scheduled monthly events that were organized and held by players and staff, and served as a great way to meet new people and grow your characters story. I think my favorite event was an expedition that led to me and some friends reviving a literal sea god and somehow fusing with it. (Another great experience was having my character get possessed by a water spirit, but that’s a whole other story lol) I truly can’t put into words how special this community and server was, and I am so so grateful to everyone I have met. My experience has truly shaped who I am as a storyteller and a roleplayer, and has made a lasting impact on my art. Here’s to 10+ years of a fantastic server!!

Bro!! I was active on Hollowworld for a few years. There was always hella drama going on but in general it was a very fun place to make stories with your friends! A lot of those little details you mentioned actually came about from story events that happened in roleplay, so it was an ever-changing world. Idk much about what happened at the very end, but the “Evil” tag was a tag that you could purchase (the server relied on donations) and have in-game and on the forums, not set by the server owner. Thank you for helping to archive this short but memorable part of my life. There’s another server with a lot of the same people called Avalore that started up after HW went down. I was a very active HollowWorld player for nearly 10 years. I spent an ungodly amount of time, more time than I probably spent on anything else, on my characters and building. A couple of my builds are actually featured in this video which was crazy to see. I left the community about a year before they closed and didn’t stick around for any of the final days as it had all kind of run it’s course for me long before I realised it had. But I am now a writer and artist and I know 100% I would not have been as inspired to be either of those things if I hadn’t been on HW and met the people I met there. I am currently working on my first real novel with a protagonist that is inspired by a character I played for around 5 years on HW (actually the frog is one of that character’s pet frogs so that was really heartwarming). Thank you for such a sensitive and meaningful look at our little corner of the world, one that I know I will look back on time and time again ❤

21:23 Hey, that server looks familiar! Not sure if you had a chance to check, but all the cool stuff was on the Skyblock server. That was the main one played on and the one I put the most work into. I wrote several plugins to recreate automation mods in vanilla MC, so there's pipes for item transport, mining machines, tools for obtaining items you normally can't get in Skyblock, etc. Most of my own claims on the server didn't have much done in them because I spent 90% of my time writing plugins, fixing bugs, and making optimization changes. Mostly because I found that way more fun than actually playing MC lol. I had a lot of big plans for the server at the time, hence all the "coming soon" signs and empty rooms in the hub spawn. As a single-man operation, I was probably a bit too ambitious about that, TBF. As for the whole MIA thing, IRL kicked my butt with health issues, job issues, and, as a result, money issues. I do feel like I'm finally starting to get things back under control, but my interest in making YT videos, particularly MC videos, has drastically diminished over the last few years. I will, at least, be making that "total overhaul" I mentioned on the website, just at a slower pace than I initially planned. =) Thanks for taking a look at the server and including it in your video! The server used to be pretty popular and there were often videos that players uploaded of their time on it, but it's been a long time since I've seen one. It's nice seeing it in a new video, even if it's a "forgotten servers" video. XD

Wild to see hollow world on here; Unfortunate owner of the account chiarophinx, don't think any of my work featured. It meant a lot to a lot of people, it was thick with drama and problems and was an extremely cumbersome way to roleplay. There was a slew of two or three dramas at the end there, centering around different accusations of stolen work, incompetent staff, favouritism, sexual assault, pedophilia; All the classics of a medium that puts the vulnerable, young, and ostracized near those who would predate on them, and the lacklustre moderation against such. It had the atmosphere of a small town where everyone knew eachother, and thus everyone would gossip. The end of Hollow world was a slow death, it's decline occured over the years, drama by drama, bleeding staff and playercount each time. By the time the final drama had hit it wasn't one fell blow so much as, all the good will had finally evaporated, everyone was tired of fighting, nobody saw the future of the server anymore, the staff were exhausted of the players and vice versa. There are dozens of splinters and spin-offs and different roleplay servers in this medium, and in them you'll see the same hundred faces and names over and over. Hopping from one sinking ship to another, there are smaller ones that only last months or years. Hollow world sinking was a big one. Still, although the medium is full of drama, awful people, and a cumbersome way to roleplay. I'm glad to have met the people I have from that server, and even met my current partner because of it. Hollow world was only ever special because of those rare people who really made it worth it, and thankfully, they're still around. I might be a minority in this but, I'm glad that the server finally ended. A lot of that server made people suffer, there was a number of actual crimes committed and general awfulness. Somedays my friends on it would talk about it and the people it sheltered with such nausea, fear or anxiety that it twisted me up; I don't feel like it was truly abandoned. The things that were great about it get to move on, and the rotten foundations and ghosts can hopefully be left behind.

Hey! Thanks so much for featuring Hollowworld. Even if I didn't play on the server reset showcased here, I'd been a member over 12 years ago before the initial community split into several different roleplay servers following administrative drama. There were several other servers that either spawned from Hollowworld players/staff, or simply budded up on their own, between Uthrandir, Gildorym and Aethier just off the top of my head. All had their own drama, or ended up suffering a stagnating fate at a slow loss in popularity and the eventual death of Enjin, which multiple relied on for forums. I always felt like the overarching roleplay community transcended the individual servers. Arcone - Wood Elf

Yet another old HollowWorld player here! I was quite active in some of the server's earlier years, specifically 2012-2014. I played a couple characters on there, Reltimus and Sigurd Selmon (If anyone sees this and remembers those names: Hi old friend(s)!). My time spent on HW was easily the most emotionally significant time I've spent in any game before or since; I grew up there, made mistakes there, matured there, surrounded by some wonderful people (and a handful of less wonderful folks). I feel like I owe so much of who I am to that place. When I heard it would be ending, I came back to mourn for a little while. It was so melancholic to explore the forums in what felt like their darkest hour and the weeks following. One of the things I dreaded was that it would just wink out of existance, forgotten by the internet at large. Of course there would still be scattered media, posts in other places, Bart's songs (love ya', old pal). But you including it here feels like a true and proper send-off to me, like my old home being written into the history of ancient, now dead servers. Been a fan of yours for a while, Redlyne. Thank you for showing respect to the old stomping ground.

It's an odd feeling to watch through someone else's story...because I wonder how many people explored what I had created after the server really faded. Thankfully I've been able to remain in contact with a few of its inhabitants over the years, and it's always fun to reminisce over old plot roleplays with them. Those roleplays have now fueled my desire and dream to become a writer and video creator. Having contact with the owner of the server afterwards has still been great, as he set up a private version of the server for a few of us more dedicated folk to keep building on, even if most of us don't have the time for it anymore. Last I remember there was talks of turning it public as a museum, because there's so much history of mine there that I simply would love to share. I still remember fondly my gaming days when I first started to play multiplayer with uncharted 2 back in 2009. Wish I could go back to those days again.

Hey thanks for covering such a long important part of my life. As of writing this I've moved on from RP but if Hytale is any good I'd want to try and pick up the hobby over there. Hollowworld was a pretty cool place. Oh also Evil was a superficial rank on the fourms.

Bro seeing that segment on HollowWorld hit me in the feels, and I had no idea it existed till your video. Then I look in the comments and like 4 out of every 5 comments I've seen is a HollowWorld player. You really hit the minecraft equivalent of finding an ancient civilization.

Hollowworld seemed like a beautiful little project. I hope forums and RP communities start picking back up. its a real shame to find things that have long been dead that have had so much work put into them. Hope someone brings it back in some form.

I never joined any of these servers personally, but there's a very deep, nostalgic feeling I get hearing about these, especially Hollowworld. I've always been really into fantasy and been the type of person to be really engrossed in stories like that- player made, fantasy roleplay with a whole world to alter and leave your mark on. I never had the chance for a long term one like that, but I'm so glad the players who dedicated hours of their time to it were able to. It sounds so fun, like a perfect escape, and I hope those people know how lucky they are to have memories like that, and treasure the times they spend on it. I know I certainly would.

the HollowWorld comments are hitting extremely hard. during quarantine, i joined a similar server known as Stoneworks, and had a blast. fantasy world with RP, very similar thing to HollowWorld. Stoneworks is still up, but it’s very much a shell of its former self. all this to say, to all HollowWorld players, you guys are my people and i would have loved to play on your server when it was in its prime. i hope you can all find new opportunities.

22:20 The fifth user on the Top Playtime leaderboard, Ngis, is someone who I recall playing with on a survival server called BeyondVanilla between September 2021 and uh February of 2022? That was when BeyondVanilla had shut down. The owner (Dimo I think he was called) ran the server as a programming hobby project, personally coding all the plugins. So naturally, when Dimo got a proper full-time programming job, the server lost its appeal to him. Dimo said anyone who wants to host it could do so, but nobody was up for the task, so the server closed forever. I remember Ngis gave me a tour of their base-a solo project from what I could tell. Ngis started out by using a flying TNT duper and clearing out a huge chunk of the world down to bedrock. From there, presumably a town was to be built. However, this didn't get very far-the town basically had a small street with a handful of houses hanging over the vast abyss. There was also a raid farm built a long ways across the basin, but I don't recall any other structures in this area. I don't think much else became of the bedrock abyss base before the server went down. Ngis is definitely the type of person to clock hundreds of hours into a server for a massive project, so seeing that name here feels fitting, albeit shocking. I shared these memories because yelling at the computer screen about how I know that person was not enough to satisfy my sense of surprise. I wonder what Ngis is up to these days.

unfortunately thw server owner didnt allow the entire map to be saved because some players might not have been able to consent to folks having their builds and some actively didnt want it. but if you owned a region, you could have it archived by staff if you wanted

I think the anime skins thing is part of a plugin where if you type a certain person's username in, the bot will use their skin. So likely, when it was made, those people had pirate skins, but have since changed their skins, resulting in having the immersion broken by Naruto.

Staff member of Farland here, can confirm that is pretty much exactly what a lot of it is, but in this case these guys are all normal villagers, not pirates, other than Old Shoe, who's backstory is more like retired captain than anything. We just decided to write dialogue around what we had when we got those results in places with some of them, but we may still change all that in the future seeing as it breaks the immersion (Might keep Mugen though as I do like the idea that he is a retired samurai that is one of the few to put up a fight during the pirate invasion). We appreciate the feedback!

I hope everything with HollowWorld got archived. I was on a server - Mayhaven - and it closed some time ago and nothing was really archived, so a group of us got together and made a discord server to archive what would could. It's a tragedy to see so much creative work disappear in an instant.

What actually happened was a decision that it was deemed unfair on people to have their builds handed out to anyone and everyone else who could then use those builds and claim them as their own to use elsewhere without the original owners permission. So instead what was done was schematics and chunk downloads were done of cities, towns, individual buildings were made and then handed out to the owners to keep their own little areas as keepsakes or for use elsewhere. The forums themselves were saved and archived by the owner, how that will be distributed at all is uncertain. But things are not *gone* permanently.

These videos are just really sad honestly. I spent quite a bit of time on Minecraft, both single and multiplayer, from 2010-2014. I was part of a few servers, never stayed too long, but I was involved in a couple. My first one I forget the name of but from it came another server I believe, it was called Naturecraft if I recall correctly. Lots of good(well, debatable as I didn't really make any friends or any 'essential' or 'impactful' memories, but they are moments that happened) memories from Minecraft. Especially playing custom maps like all of the survival maps. Nowadays, Minecraft just doesn't feel the same for me anymore.

as a writer and an artist with a major interest in worldbuilding, hollowworld could not be more impressive to me. i can barely write a paragraph of information for some of my most beloved OCs, so seeing that some of them had 20+ PAGES of lore was seriously insane. its so cool to see a group of people come together and worldbuild together like that, really reminds me of the old roleplay forums i used to browse as a kid that you really don't see on the modern internet anymore. i wish the lore and artwork could've been archived in some way just for reference, but i understand the struggle in having to keep something running long after it's dead. also killer7 music nice.

to answer the question for the real crafters from the bonus segment, id say adventure maps still get made, maybe less commonly (tho modern minecraft has considerably more powerful vanilla tools for mapmaking and custom stuff) but they still exist and ive played some semi recently. they are a lot less popular than they may have once been, but its still a niche
