Exploring Glen Cemetery

Located in Paxton, Illionois between Chicago and Urbana is a large Swedish pioneer cemetery going back to the 1850's. Not only are we going to explore some of these great monuments, and I will tell you the story of Abram Croft and his four wives who are all entombed with him in his mausoleum. I will also tell you the story of a WWI soldier who died in combat and has an empty grave in this cemetery. So come join me as we explore Glen Cemetery.

Such a lovely, well-kept cemetery. You must be getting plenty of rain to see a wide open space so green. Nice headstones and monuments and the open masoleum was a treat. Thanks for the tour.

The short mettal base beside Jeannie was a reservoir planter for Perennial planting of plants flower bulbs etc. That would resprout in the warm weather the big vase is missing off the top but it would catch and hold rain water in its base through capillary action kept the plants from drying up. There are still lots of these still working in cemetaries today a great American invention, back then before cars, most cemetaries and churches were a ways out by Horse and buggie half a days trip out and back just to water flowers. Lots of these cemeteries had Churches and started out as church yards, with time things change and the church buildings disappear leaving the cemetary to continue burying and get bigger till the land tract set aside is full.

It is amazing! There is a KZbin video that was given little if any relevance, showing a leaning, ready to be knocked over, abandoned, headstone of a veteran of ... are you ready for this? WW1 - WW2 - And The Korean War. A veteran of 3 wars, his headstone is neglected and completely ignored.@@MiddleAgedBaldGuy

I hate to be that guy, but you have to know. You don't Bury people in a mazoleum.
