About Qubes and custom software installs. The rc.local method is not the way to go but it is there if needed as a last resort. The beauty of Qubes is when you install the software in the template VM it is served up as a read-only image during runtime of any AppVM using that template. A nefarious hacker who gets a temporary foothold in an AppVM will be unable to modify the software, so you become somewhat immune to those kinds of attacks. For software that you actually want to be permanent within a specific AppVM, you can install it in /usr/local and it will be persistent across VM instances.

Thanks for the answer! Do you have any kind of documentation of QUBES besides the official one?

I ran this on a ThinkPad T260s without any mods other than adding a second battery after install. Putting this here to help others if needed.

'docker' and 'security' shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Docker wraps linux's native containerization capabilities which effectively just allow you to isolate a dependency chain. The host kernel is still being used. Xen is a hypervisor that virtualises the complete hardware stack and presents you with a seperate machine instance that is completely isolated from the host.

Quebes OS 4.1 is an amazing concept for a VM managed OS. However it is next to impossible to install any useful applications on it and have it register in the applications list so you can deploy them on different qubes. I have tried many different ways and it all becomes too complicated just to install simple software. SMH

It looks like impossible to install latest Qubes 4.1.0 to QEMU/KVM. It does strange "freeze out" randomly during install. Sometimes i can not even reach the language selection screen. Sometimes i can pass it through but on the partitioning screen will be freeze the whole installation process. I was trying remove usb mouse and using laptop's built-in mousepad. Also was trying booting from CDROM and trying all available Hard Drive options. VirtIO USB IDE SATA SCSI. Also i was trying with larger sizes: first 40GB then 50GB 55GB and 60GB. Also i was re-downloading the .iso as might be corrupted for first attempt...No luck. I was installing R4.04-x86_64 but it was also not easy. Default partitioning does not work only if i did custom partitioning. But at least could install it. But latest version always failed.. Nested virtualization enabled but IOMMU/VT error can not eliminate....Is that could causing this issue? Or What?

I'm new in the Virt-Manager (QEMU-KVMI) and I face the same problem with it. I didn't tried the old version yet. Even in the VirtualBox for Qubes, I can get it installed but I can't run it due to some issue with sometthing else that I don't know. Help its wellcome.

Sounds like James has nearly made a build like Insurgo’s privacy beast or Nitrokey’s Nitropad.

Watching this guy was pretty sad. He was supposed to be advising and teaching everyone... When he himself seemed pretty new and ignorant to it all. He seemed very ambivalent and I am willing to bet that was his second time ever doing that and the first one he followed a YT step by step and that is why he was unable to explain any other settings than his own. Very disappointed we expect better content.

Thanks, dudes. I’m jumping into Qubes and appreciate the deeper dive than most videos. I’d almost like to see a revisit, but I don’t get the idea that Kody is really using Qubes that much? Also- the pronouncing of Qubes… get the F outta here. :P

@@Alejandro-dm7ve Sure I will, Qubes OS is a system designed for isolation of systems. It’s built on virtualization technology so that by design all operating systems are isolated for security reasons. This system is not a hacker operating system no hacker tools 🧰 etc. labeling this a hacker operating mean it’s for hacking would you say? As a security professional and using a hacking system everyday at work e.g kaliLinux which is a hacker OS! So comment was to mean this title was misleading and people do that for different purposes in this case click baiting is what he did my thoughts. 💭
