Hi G, At the risk of you believing I could be over 40 🤣 , when I was a little boy….Penychain station was the station for Butlins holiday camp at Pwllheli. There was a Station Master, booking clerks, station staff a signal box and two platforms. On Summer Saturdays, extra staff were sent to help liaise with the Butlin Redcoats who would endeavour to control the thousands….yes honestly, who would be arriving and departing on trains every few minutes. The Redcoats had loud hailers and tried to hold folks back till just before their train was due, to avoid overcrowding the platform. Just around the corner towards Criccieth was Afonwen, there was a junction station here where the line from Bangor joined the Cambrian, the station was right by the sea. Oh happy 😃 days . Catch you soon. Happy travelling. Geoff. x

I think that large shelter at Penychain probably dates from when Butlins ran a holiday camp either side of the railway and large numbers of people would arrive and leave by train on a Saturday (the holidays ran one week long: Saturday - Saturday). I spent many summer holidays there as a child and the phrase "over the bridge" was often heard in the camp because the railway line went right through the middle of the camp.

It does. I worked there summer 1996 and used the station a lot to visit home when I could get the right days off.

Just come back from a walking holiday in the Snowdonia area. Went past a few stations that had some excellent views. I think I remember seeing Beddgelert, Llanberis (check out the Slate Museum), Betws Y Coed (lots of great station features), Harlech (go to the castle). Think I saw some others, but can't remember. There were some steam train rides that look to be worth it. Think the one I saw while I was there was called the 'Snowdonia Star'. Was hoping to bump into you. But not sure how far ahead you are in your filming. Can see why you chose North Wales. Just amazing scenary. That man at the end stole the entire video haha

The reason for the colourful shelter at Penychain is that it’s the request stop for the Haven site Hafan Y Mor. Before 1998 it was Butlins Pwllheli. I spent a lot of time in the station In 1996 as I worked the summer season at Butlins. Many years ago it was double track, but usage went down and it was changed to a single track line. If you look at the sign by the ramp carefully, you can see the outline of the letters on the underneath vinyl that still says Butlins.

TfW should sort out the power sockets. Plus are you going to visit the station in the Isle of Anglesey with the longest Welsh name in the world. Have to say that the beach does look really nice. And lastly you should go down to London and to ride on the Elizabeth Line that is opened between Abbey Wood-Paddington. And Elizabeth Line trains from Shenfield to Reading and Heathrow Airport to start operating from next year.
