Epic video, narrated in your own unique way. Have to say I admire your bravery for using a ground tent in Nxai Pan, with lions and buffalos in the neighborhood. I have beautiful memories of the Nxai Pan, especially 2015 when we almost witnessed a giraffe hunt, only came towards the end when the giraffe was down.. Beautiful place.. I have learnt to same lesson, the bushes offer nothing rather stay on the plains..
@exploringbotswana6 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching, I love the ground tent, it makes it easier to have an early start, and I kinda like hearing the animals sniffing around at night 😂 sounds like you had an amazing sighting, I have never seen lions make a kill…..one day hopefully 🙏 it is true the open plains are the best.

Hello Garreth Thank you for the beautiful video on Nxai Pans. Your advice and comments are much appreciated. What grocery store in Maun do you recommend. Any other safety tips on night camping. Thank you.
@exploringbotswana5 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for your support, so glad you enjoyed the video, Spar in Maun is good, the big spar and the spar by Woolworths. Delta meat deli and beef boys are great for meat. Safety tips, Always keep your tents closed it stops bugs and snakes and other things out, even if you just around camp keep your tent zipped. Get a powerful flashlight. dont leave food out. i think thats it. If you have to use the bush as a loo, while out on a drive, always clap to make sure there are no sleeping lions behind the bushes. To be honest a little common sense goes a long way in the bush, so if you careful you will be ok

Thank you, the more I drive with these narrow tires the more I love them
@chantellevanheerden9945 ай бұрын
Yep they are just so much better especially in the sandy ruts. Wider tyres just pushes the rut wider and lots more rolling resistance. And then all that pushed sands drops back in the rut.

Hello, thanks again for this nice video full of tips that helps me planning my trip to Nxai next year. I like sunrise and sure will make the same and wake up very early to have so beautiful morning lithts. Greetings from Switzerland.

Thanks for sharing. Iam a bit jealous, wish I could be living in Maun. Was in Nxai in july, not much going on predator-wise (1 early morning lioness walking away) Good to see you had nice sightings. I also try to share and ask for sightings, but not everybody is open to that. How is Nxai for leopard and wild dog? I had more sightings in Moremi,Khwai and CKGR, and liked those parks more, what do you think?
@exploringbotswana6 ай бұрын
Yes, Khwai Moremi and Ckgr are much better for sightings, i think Nxai is a bit like Ckgr but tame. Thats why i am hoping to see it a little more wild in October. The dog pack in nxai is small, and altho the Kwando guide said they had not been seen for awhile, a couple at the gate on our way out said they had seen them on the bains road, so they still around. Everyone i have spoken to says the best place to see leopards is the main sand road in to south camp. Btw thanks for watching

Those narrow tires are fine. You know the science behind traction because you let the air pressure down. Zimbabwe parks and wildlife have run for the last 40 years on standard landrover 750/16 narrow tires. No problem.

Hello. Great and intersting Video. We will be in Nxai early May so we hope to be as lucky as you were. I intend to puchase the map but I am wondering if it is showing both sides of Nxa NP. Baine's Baobab area and South Camp area? Also, coming from Maun (after Moremi), going to Nxai, then Lekubu is there a vet fence crossing where we cannot carry fresh meat and dairy products? Alternatively, is a frozen curry or similar is ok for the vet fence? Tks!
@exploringbotswana6 ай бұрын
hey, thanks for watching, My map only covers the south camp area, we have not really explored the Bains area enough altho there is not many game drive loops at bains. The Bains area never used to be very good for game sightings but in the last few years, it seems that a Bains pride is starting to take shape. Meat from maun to Nxai is a problem unless its chicken or precooked. on your way to lekubu you drive through Gweta, you could buy local meat, but its often of uncertain origin and quality. the gate in question is the Makalamabedi gate

Our favourite park in Botswana. Could spend a couple of weeks there parked at that waterhole. Have to wonder if that pride of lions is the same one we say there in 2019 with grown up subadults now. We spent 4 hrs with the full pride at the main waterhole with not a single other car. Magic.
@exploringbotswana6 ай бұрын
Honestly, it’s so beautiful just to park off at the waterhole and watch the comings and going’s. Sounds like an awesome sighting!! It likely that they some of the same or at least related to the ones you saw. It would be so cool to spend like a month in the park, really getting to know them
