What a cool thing to see the upstairs 😊 I love that you're saving and reusing the carpet from the events! I'll bet there's tons of places that would take it off their hands if they knew about it. Makes great sound insulation as well. The "pissoire" (😂) is where people would fill their personal pitchers to use in the morning and at night with their wash basins, which would have been kept in their rooms. It was quite a luxury to have plumbing brought up to the servant's floor. But nobody would have been peeing down it lol.
@marshawargo72382 жыл бұрын
It would be nice to have if you have live plants up there to water. As apposed to carrying buckets of water up all those stairs! Also something for pouring, can't pour a bucket!

I can envision what the rooms may look like once restored. That has to be the fun part for you guys, dreaming up the finished rooms with décor. The room sizes certainly give way to almost anything one can conjure up. I am so glad chateau owners have decided to share their process - I find it so interesting and fun to follow along.

Carol. I’m getting back on the paint bleeding and turning the gold. He suggested using a product called Kiltz stain blocker, Mildred blocker sealer. I have used it on my ceilings because of water damage and it has worked great. They have indoor outdoor. Then you can pain your colors. Good luck

What a wonderful video. I love the layout for a future apartment. The roomy are in amazing condition and won’t be to hard to get them fitted so Carol can do her magic. This chateau is one of my favorite because it ticks so many buttons. 1) It needed renovations but not completely gutting except for the amazing floors that Adrian has completely redone to make them more efficient. 2) my favorite style on the outside. Princess castle downsized. The roof line and over shape a symmetry is beautiful. 3) just the right amount of outbuildings to suit the size of the chateau. 4) all of the original fireplaces even if all of them will be used it’s still amazing that all are still intact. 5) MOLDINGS 👏👏👏👏👏👏 the amount of rooms that have the original ceiling trims and molding is great but the intricate molding is so lovely and Carol beautifies them is so fun to watch her silbe in and make them perfectly restored. 6). Size matters. To many ends up with dozens of unfinished rooms the suck up your resources like airs heat and dampness. I’m glad you had the forethought to put the carpet in to help insulate the floors. 7) that you have land but not an overwhelming amount to have to maintain. 8) location, location, location is everything and I love that you are so close to everything. Towns, airports, favorite tourist destinations, other chateau KZbinrs, and the ocean. 9) your secret garden is big but not overwhelming. It is a wonderful magical feeling for what it would have been 100 years ago. 10) I love the basement. It’s so bright and airy. It will make for future craft rooms, workshops, storage, and, future bar. I can’t wait to see everything you do to it.

Thanks for the presentation, nice to see and I'm itching to come and help you.😄. I think it's exciting but also a huge job for you, Carol must take care of herself as I see she is a top perfectionist in everything she does and is hard on herself. Knows it all too well, smiles, You are your own worst enemy when everything has to be tip top. But wow, it's great that you bought this pearl that will shine like gold in the end, think about when you'll finish one day hmm yes, you'll never be finished really, because everything has to be maintained over time. Hope you have many fantastic years there with good experiences together with family and friends, remember to enjoy everything on the journey because the years run fast and the body wears out, you are working too hard. You are both incredibly talented and have some lovely children. Exciting to follow you and sometimes I sit and shout wow buy that when you are out looking at old things. My son says mom you'd think it was yours and laughs at me. I'm 62 and have always loved the old and have done quite a few houses myself throughout my life, starting when I was 18. Good luck and good wishes to you Maria Denmark, Hug❤😉😊🌹🌻

I really enjoy seeing the original details in the castle. The upstairs potty station and the flow of the rooms. Even though they're not pretty, it's nice to see them as they are, so you can get a feel for how they once were. Putting the event carpet down was a brilliant idea to help hold down on the drafts going down to the floors below & it's free! Free is always a good thing lol.

So, one more thought, drifting off to sleep: forget patterned wallpaper, and forget patterned drapes. Plain ivory walls with a deep, thick amber-gold cotton velours for the drapes will let all the gold leaf shine and make a more daring, bold statement of classic simplicity. The velours c/b backed with a heavy ivory canvas, and fringed with a tiny-bit-brighter trim, to bring it into the range of the gold leaf's brighter accents; the darker amber would catch the lowlights of the gold leaf, and be warmer, as well (poly is no good for serious window insulation, it holds the cold, not the heat.) Mes deux centimes...

We restored a small arts and craftsman home. It had plaster walls and ceilings. I continually had to repair cracks. Finally I got the idea to put a thinner thickness of sheetrock over the plaster walls and ceilings. We lived there for several years and it was great. No more filling and painting! An added bonus was the sheetrock added additional insulation to the rooms.

There is a new product where you drill holes (I am thinking) tend then squirt this cement/ glue in the holes and it reattached the pattern to the lathe so you don't have to replace all of it. You can also put in these nails or screws with washers made to hold the poster on screws into the lath and then skim coat over all of that. Both options so much less work and expense than replacing all of the plaster unless you want to insulate under there anyway then go ahead and remove it.

Carole-Everything you do is so meticulously done, and I love the way you paint with small brushes. Do you think it would be better not to paint door and shutter hinges? I always find that the paint gets a little wonky from use. Can hardly wait to see the finish product in the salon. Your rooms are always so beautiful they hardly need furnishings.
@LifeAfterLaFerté2 жыл бұрын
Thank you John. Sometimes because the hinges are so old and the screws snap trying to remove them, which has happened alot to Adrian, it's better to just paint over them. I would prefer not to, as the paint rubs off anyway!
