If you’re still in Lousiana. Head over to Monroe LA and there is a giant mound at this coordinates 2411 Pargoud Landing Monroe, LA 71201 United States. It’s literally a giant mound in the middle of the city.

Wow, that is really amazing to see! Any idea why they went to so much trouble to build a mound like that? Also the name sounds strange for a world heritage site. Is that some kind of unfortunate translation to English or was it just given that name later? It seems worthy of a much better name than Poverty Point

That's a great question and I'm not sure we will ever have an exact answer. However, it's probably for the same reasons that the later mound building cultures did so. For example, there was a plantation a poverty point in the 19th century here, so that's what it's named after. Nothing to do with the indigenous people but we don't know what they called themselves.
