Words simply don't do justice to these centuries old communities of artistic creation , one only has to gaze upon a seemingly simple stone wall 11:50 , and marvel at the workmanship on display , sadly , the world of stone and wood has slowly faded from favor , and has been replaced with lifeless modern structures , incapable of bearing anything resembling a soul , I myself feel extremely thankful and grateful , for all those generations of countless people , who helped in any way with the preservation of these wonderous structures , we are all truly blessed to still be able to witness and enjoy such beauty and elegance , try as we may , we will never come close to replicating the golden era of China's past dynasties , be it Qingyan , Suzhou , or the incomparable Forbidden City , time will always hold special honor for these , and other such wonderful gifts to humanity , let us the living , never forget the untold sacrifices of those who came before us , and strive tirelessly to preserve and cherish these wonders for eternity ...

Max, I can't believe the amount and variety of small ancient towns that exist all over China. This must be because of the long history of Chinese civilization that has left a huge legacy of architecture behind. I have never seen these rock statues of soldiers or guardians. They almost remind me of the Aztec culture of central America but definitely not Han Chinese. Thank you for taking us to another unique place that many of us will probably never visit. Excellent choice of location to film. Max, you are the best.

Hello sir I am from India and I love China. Are you aware that we are both ancient civilizations with a historical contact and were the best of allies in the ancient world? I have read in history that many Chinese scholars like Tang Shazang and Hieun Tsang travelled to ancient India and studied at the Nalanda University of ancient India which is the oldest university of Asia. Ancient Indian and Chinese empires had numerous diplomatic relations with each other. After all Buddhism was imported to China from ancient India by Indian monks and Chinese scholars. Do you know that the Shaolin temple was built by an Indian king known as Boddhidharma? Like other ancient north Indians and modern day fair skinned Indians especially north Western Indians he was of scythian/ indo European Caucasian descent a fact which is the only reason many right wingers from the west like India and wants us to be their puppet. Boddhidharma was referred to as a blue eyed barbarian by the Chinese since Caucasians were unfamiliar in ancient China. What I and many Indians wish is that India should stop being a Sheriff of the West and ally with its ancient friend and neighbour. Believe me that we Indians too have a potential to be advanced. Many modern satellite cities are coming up in India which are almost similar to Shanghai and Chengdu in all aspects. But at the same time there is poverty. Actually we are a nation with a diverse ethnicities , cultures and histories. Our history is rooted in foreign invasions like China. Therefore we must ally again and cooperate with each other hand in hand like our ancestors dud in ancient world when India and China were at the top of the world. Both of us have made achievements in science and have a successful industrial and research sectors. If we cooperate we can teach the Western World a lesson. The future should belong to both of the two Asian giants. I will be glad if a Greater Pan Asian sphere is formed. We are both Asians, we are brothers. Thanks🙂🇨🇳♥️🇮🇳♥️🇨🇳

It's old, it have grey walls :D It's a kind of fort at base, and now it's like this, it must be a very big fort :O, can imagine thousands of warriors in it. When you look at it, you dont think it's like +600 years old... Everything look in pretty good shape, i know some architectures that have been build 20 years ago that look wayy worse than that :O, Chinese people really take good care of heritage. Wow, the transition at the moment you reach the park, There is instantly a feeling of ab ig jungle with the birds and nature sounds :O. Honestly, with all the statues and nature, i thougth for a moment that you will cross the path of indiana Jones or lara Croft in a corner... Study around and looking for a big treasure XD. It's very curious, i saw many things on TV about China history and all, many temple and such. But i nerver ever seen anything about this place and theses statues :O... It's very curious because this seems to be a very unique place and it's definitly the only place i see with statues like this. I think this zone is under-popular, doesn't have the visit and popularity it should have. It's definitly a place to visit, it's soo different from everything you show before. Are theses statues some kind of warrior? or maybe something about a god? it's very strange and unique XD Alos... i love the guy singing at the beginning of the video XD Thank the for visit :D, i never expected such statues to exist in China, never seen or simply hear about this ever , it's really a shocking discovery for me :O. I wish we could get some people here who actually visit China and show all his beauty, instead of showing all excuse to make a bad China impression... :/ Happy 100 year of China communist party :D !! (I m not sure exactly what that mean for chinese people, but i know for sure it's a good reasons to celebrate and have fun, like chinese people always love to celebrate and have fun XD)

Which wall do you prefer more, Frank, grey wall or Great Wall? I guess you love grey wall more...XD It definitely a huge and imporant fort at ancient time. Imagine that you're a warrior to protect this fort.... ------------------------- Honestly, with all the statues and nature, i thougth for a moment that you will cross the path of indiana Jones or lara Croft in a corner... Study around and looking for a big treasure XD. That statues are very Indiana Jones style! They can make a movie scene at here without too much decorations... This place is so special and I didn't see any place like this in other places of China. Just like you said, very unique and very special. Yes, and it's not a popular place. Not too much people know this place exist. This statues are kind of gods for minority nationalities. ----------------- Happy 100 year of China communist party :D !! (I m not sure exactly what that mean for chinese people, but i know for sure it's a good reasons to celebrate and have fun, like chinese people always love to celebrate and have fun XD) Frank, you are super right about celebration! I was very busy these days because I had to celebrate many kind of activities with my co-workers and friends. It's a big party for whole China. Hope you have a happy time too!

adding it to my must see list. Just hope it won't be too commercialized (like Lijiang that I visited before that happened) by the time I visit. Thanks for the video. 退休后去住应该不错。

I have to say, most of these spots are kind of commercialized like Lijiang. Hope you know that well

In the video, @1.15 min it's stated 1038 pm, n still so bright!!!! I cant believe it!!! Can Walk East pse explain! And those sculptures with big bulging eyes(reminded me of Aztec figures), have they been there originally since ancient times? Or were these scupltures/statues that looked so new, artificially manmade???? Could Walk East clarify? Love the old stone n wooden houses with beautiful tiled roofs wooden crafted doors n windows panels n narrow streets/lanes. Felt like being transported back in those ancient times. I think those grey bricks walls looks recently renovated/added! Look forward to visit this ancient village/town.

It's 10:38AM, and I used subtitle to explain my mistake... sorry for that, dear friend. It's modern scupltures, dear friend. Thanks for your love. You're welcome to this town!

Although it was claimed that the Qingyan town was constructed completely with stone, yet I still see lots of cement concrete. For instance, the stone wall at the end of the video, or at 54:46 minutes, the wall could not be carved from a natural stone. It must be built with cement concrete as its crust and other bricks or small natural stones as its crumb. If we start from the beginning, we will discover many instances where cement concrete was used in the construction of many structures. I believe, somehow, ancient people had discovered or invented the cement, which then was used to build small bricks, and used as a binding substance to bind bricks together to build walls and statues.

HIii, may i suggest something? Maybe making each vid 10 mins long would be better. And add some nice music or ancient chinese music (bamboo flute and Guzheng) would be nice too.

Thanks for the tip👍 But maybe I prefer longer videos more. Thank you.

I think this is incredible and what a marvelous job you have done with this video. You also highlighted the risk of the cultural relics being replaced by modern artefacts bec local people obviously want to capitalize on tourist industry. Is it not possible to get it registered by UNESCO Heritage SIte -- the local government and people can apply for that status so that renovations etc are done in an organized way using old materials. GIven not only the old courtyards and style of architecture, its historical importance as part of a military architecture, its mixed cultural and religious life over the years, etc etc it has so many features worthy of global preservation. In a few short years if not conserved properly, much of whats appreciated here will be gone forever.

The best part of the tour is law and order. No police patrol. I live in Canada, but I feel insecure walking in a maze of narrow streets like these.
