I remember when trains operated on both sections of track. I hired out on the EL in 1969 as a tower man.

Interesting. I thought that Hot Dog Johnny's was the only thing in Buttzville! You learn something new every day!

ANOTHER EXCELLENT MINI TOUR OF THIS OLD JERSEY RR JUNCTION: KEEP IT COMING AND GOOD LUCK !

I remember always seeing those old bridges passing by. I love this channel, i thought i was the only one wondering what these things were. Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex counties are so interesting to me with all their abandoned infrastructure

Wonderful. I've been looking for shows like this. From Highland falls New York

That angle through the bridge's archway looks like it would take the top off any modern day power or rolling stock.

When I first saw the walking bridge underneath I thought, "hey that might be a great bridge for magnet fishing!" And then i saw the holes on the bottom and the solid metal walls on both sides. 😂

The arched RR bridge was part of the 29-mile 'Lackawanna Cutoff' constructed in 1908-1911 with all-concrete bridges east of the Delaware Water Gap. It replaced the original route to Scranton that was longer and steeper. The Cutoff was abandoned in 1984 under Conrail. Do a little research on the Lackawanna Cutoff. A lot of it is being rebuilt today.
@metrotrails2467 Жыл бұрын
No it wasn't. This was the old main from 1856. The cutoff is much farther north.
@metrotrails2467 Жыл бұрын
The cutoff never came near Buttzville.

Been there,done it...years ago. Before the law threatened any who stood there, people were allowed to visit this bridge and enjoy a number of outdoor activities on it and around it. There are videos of people bungie jumping off of it...I and a number of friends had the pleasure of walking through it via the passageways that are built all through it...that was in the 90's. NOW you are under threat for even parking there or standing there too long to look at it. Be careful if you visit for you will be under observation while you are there...fair warning!

No, you're thinking of a totally different place, probably Hainesburg. This is totally public land here.

I wonder if the waterway was a canal?
@metrotrails2467 Жыл бұрын
No not here. Just Pequest River.

If you're into canals, I highly suggest do some research on the Morris Canal in Northwest New Jersey. It was a technological marvel, and there are remnants of the Canal and its infrastructure still around today. I'd be glad to share some of the info with you or if you're local, take you on a tour of one of the sites

Is there any remaining evidence of the Lehigh & Oxford Railroad bridge that spanned the Pequest River at Buttzville?
