Many moons ago I lived in Cyprus and it was said that the heads of the statues were destroyed by the Turkish soldiers. Nice to see it's now a UNESCO site but could be treated like Kourion and be in a better state. Thanks for bringing me back.

Most ancient statues have missing heads. The neck is the first part to break from a statue due to ageing. Some statues had the heads removed by Christian Zealots. I don't think the Turkish soldiers removed the heads given the missing heads appeared in British rule pictures of Salamis. Regardles, another great video George - thank you.

Hello. George 👍🏽👍🏽. We went there last October on a excursion and thought it was brilliant. The Guide we had was very very knowledgeable about all the time periods of the area. Took many pictures of the area including the amphitheater. I hope you enjoyed a glass or 2 of freshly squeezed OJ from the little cabin shop near the bus park, proper delish it was.

Such a shame that the Turks charge people to get in but the upkeep is non existent. The weeds are so high in some places you can’t see a thing! Just some info: Salamis was the original capital city of Cyprus and is said to have been established around 11 BC by the ancient GREEKS. The Romans put their stamp on things but it is the Greeks that established it.
